  • Snapshot Double-Feature: 1.7.10 Pre-Release, 14w25a Ready for Testing!

    • By Sacheverell Jun 18, 2014
    • Category IconNews

Are you tired of getting one snapshot a week? Do you wish you could have more? You are in luck, for today, Mojang has released both a snapshot, and a pre-release! Twice the content for half the calories! Dinnerbone brings us this week's delectable morsels of Minecraft munchies, straight from the futuristic kitchen of Mojang!

The pre-release is relatively light, and mostly focused on Realms-specific content. However, the snapshot is loaded to the gills with goodies,

    1.7.10 PRE-RELEASE (ALPHA 4)
    • This pre-release allows you to finally upload your own worlds to Realms, and adds an option to allow you to enable command-blocks on your own Realm. It also fixes some possible future-compatibility issues we discovered.

    Snapshot 14w25a

Hey, look, a snapshot! It has lots of cool new stuff. I’m not going to tell you what they are. Not even about the new sponge texture or the new hostile mob. Nope. Nuhuh. Won’t get any new information about the new underwater stuff from me! I will, however, tell you that this snapshot contains a few months worth of rewrites to some very important parts of the engine. It is very likely that this snapshot may be more unstable than usual, slower than usual, slightly more sentient than usual or just generally unusual. Please help us to fix all these issues by reporting anything you find to the bug tracker!

    NOTABLE CHANGES
    • Added a new hostile mob.
    • Introduced Sponges to survival, with new behaviour and looks.
    • Added new scoreboard operations: "=", "<" and ">" - assign, min, max.
    • ???
    • Badgers were removed from the game.
    • Rewrote how items are rendered.
    • Rewrote how blocks are rendered.
    • Rewrote how block data is handled.
    • Rewrote history. Toby isn’t real.
Wait a minute...what's with all this hidden content?! Can you find it? Do you know where to start looking? We will know soon enough...

To get snapshots, open your launcher and press the “New Profile” button. Call it “snapshots” and check the box saying “Enable experimental development snapshots” and save. To switch to the normal version, you can select it in the dropdown at the bottom left corner of the launcher. Back up your world first or run the game on in a different folder (See the “new profile” dialog).

    XBOX ONE - NEWS

On the console front, there are some exciting changes! Release dates, details, and more await! Get ready to transfer your MCX360 worlds into a new, bigger world!
    • Minecraft: Xbox One Edition will be released on Xbox Live Marketplace in August. It brings significantly bigger worlds and a greater draw distance than Xbox 360 Edition.
    • It will include all the features from the most recent Xbox 360 title update.
    • Minecraft: Xbox One Edition will cost $19.99.
    • If you’ve bought Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition from Xbox Live Marketplace, or played online with the disc version, you will be able to upgrade to Xbox One Edition for $4.99.
    • You will be able to upgrade for a minimum of a year after the release date.
    • Players with Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition saves will be able to import their worlds to Xbox One. Unfortunately, you won’t be able to transfer saves from Xbox One to Xbox 360. We can make worlds bigger without too much stress, but shrinking them causes all kinds of problems.
    • Cross platform play will not be possible between Xbox 360 and Xbox One.
    • Many, but not all, of the DLC skins and texture packs you’ve purchased for Xbox 360 Edition will be available for use in Xbox One Edition. We’d like to say all your DLC would transfer, but some of the items are trapped in licensing deals that are too boring to get into here. More info as it develops.
    ________________________________

    PLAYSTATION NEWS!

But wait, what about Playstation players?! Fear not, you have not been forgotten!
    • Minecraft: Playstation 3 + Vita Edition will be available on the PSN in August.
    • It will include all the features from the most recent Playstation 3 version, including online play on Vita.
    • This means everyone who has bought Minecraft: Playstation 3 Edition from PSN will get it on Vita for free. (Those fluent in Sony-speak might refer to the deal as “Cross-buy.”)
    • Mojang is working closely with Sony Computer Entertainment to look into ways to enable upgrade from the Blu-ray disc version of Minecraft: Playstation 3 Edition to Minecraft: Playstation 3 and Vita. More info on this will be available closer to release.
    • Minecraft: Playstation 3 + Vita Edition will cost $19.99.
    • It doesn’t matter if you buy for PS3 or Vita first, you own the game for both platforms.
    • Saves are transferrable between the Playstation 3 and Vita versions of Minecraft. You will be able to craft at home on your Playstation 3, then continue on the bus/toilet with your Playstation Vita.
    • All of the DLC you’ve purchased for Minecraft: Playstation 3 Edition will work on Playstation 3 + Vita Edition.
So much good stuff! Updates on desktop, updates on console, updates on handheld - it's an UPDATE EXTRAVAGANZA! August isn't far off, and it will be a powerful month for Minecraft, to be sure.

What part of the updates are you most excited about? Tell us about it!

While this Snapshot may seem to be a bit feature-light, Mojang has been pouring in some hard hours into the plugin API, which isn't too far off on the horizon now! While a good bit of the API is written, it is unstable enough to warrant some extra work before being tested. Don't worry though, it won't be long now! In the meantime, enjoy some sweet new worldgen features, and a potload of bugfixes!

    FEATURES:
    • New highly customisable terrain generation! (Create new world -> “World Type: Customized”)
    • New customisable world borders! Check out the /worldborder command.
    • Lots of bug fixes, performance gains and code cleaning-upper-izing.

  • Minecraft 1.7.3 Pre-Release!

    • By Sacheverell Dec 6, 2013
    • Category IconNews
    • 58

The 1.7.3 Pre-Release is here! YAY!

    • Added integrated Twitch broadcasting! See below for details.
    • Fixed render distances above 8 (may not work in multiplayer, servers have their own view distance they limit you to)
    • Many bug fixes and optimizations!

Mojang's very own Dinnerbone had the following to say about 1.7.3:

    Quote from Dinnerbone »
At Minecon we announced our new partnership with Twitch to bring one-click broadcasting to Minecraft. It has been in the recent snapshots, and proven to be very stable and ready to go live.

Before you can start streaming, you will need to visit your Mojang account settings and link a Twitch account to your Mojang account. Then in the game you may check the quality settings in Options -> Broadcast Options, or just go ahead and start broadcasting at any time by hitting F6. This key can be configured in the Controls options.

This is only supported on Windows (Vista and higher) and Mac OS X Lion (10.7) and higher. If you cannot start broadcasting ingame for any reason, the game will tell you why and possibly how to fix it.

To get pre-releases, open your launcher and press the “New Profile” button. Call it “snapshots” and check the box saying “Enable experimental development snapshots” and save. To switch to the normal version, you can select it in the dropdown at the bottom left corner of the launcher.

    One-button livestreaming? Bugfixes? Awesome!

    • 140

This week's Snapshot brings an exciting new feature: the ability to live-stream your game on Twitch.tv with one click! How does it work?

Before you can start streaming, you will need to visit your Mojang account settings and link a Twitch account to your Mojang account. Then, while in the game, you may check the quality settings in Options -> Broadcast Options, or just go ahead and start broadcasting at any time by hitting F6. This key can be configured in the Controls options.

Currently, the livestreaming feature is only supported on Windows (XP and higher) and Mac OS X Lion (10.7) and higher. If you cannot start broadcasting in-game, go to the options screen and it should say why it isn't working.

To get snapshots, open your launcher and press the “New Profile” button. Call it “snapshots” and check the box saying “Enable experimental development snapshots” and save. To switch to the normal version, you can select it in the dropdown at the bottom left corner of the launcher.

This is a really awesome feature, and I will be demonstrating it on my Twitch page throughout the day*! Feel free to drop by, see how it works, and ask questions.

    • 62

The 0.7.2 update for Minecraft - Pocket Edition is going live, even as we speak! The change-log isn't as bulky as they often are; however, the current design focus for MCPE seems to suggest a heavy leaning towards improving performance, and player-assisting enhancements that are specific to mobile platforms. In addition, Mojang is hard at work getting Realms in order for MCPE, so that players can share in their awesome portable builds, no matter where they are!

    ADDITIONS:
    • Nametags for multiplayer
    • Player List
    • Chat will be easier to use
