  • Plague Inc in Minecraft?

    • By Sacheverell Jun 5, 2014
    • Category IconNews
    • 28

Have you ever played the game Plague Inc? If not, it's basically a simulator game where you try to infect the entire planet Earth with a custom-made virus, the end-goal being the end of all human existence. It's an ambitious game for certain, one that takes a certain finesse to play well, but fun even if you don't win a given stage.

In the spirit of bringing every game ever to Minecraft, McMakistein has recreated Plague Inc for you to play! While not a point-for-point recreation (adding every country in the world would be time-consuming at best), it is nonetheless an amazing project, built using only vanilla parts. The video includes an explanation of the redstone that powers this beast. Enjoy!

3D printers are highly popular, so it should come as little surprise to see one pop up in Minecraft! Minedaft has put together a clever contraption, using the new slime block/piston interactions, to print out small messages, images, or whatever else you can imagine, right inside the game. Enjoy!

Minecraft in Minecraft - it's one of those things people have been joking about since redstone first became a thing in the game. However, MrZeffoes has decided to go outside of humorous theory, and actually create the game, inside the game. With 8 different blocks, functional gravity (for player and sand), and an expandable 32x32 world, you can play Minecraft inside Minecraft all day!

Sethbling has created a working stargate - not just a model of one, and not just one that uses portal squares - this thing even has the rotating rings, and crazy "water exploding outward" effect all built in, with zero mods. Enjoy!

  • Mario in Minecraft - No, Seriously, Look

Do you like Super Mario Bros? Yes you do. I'm not asking - you love it!

jespertheend - already well known for elaborate puzzle maps - has come up with a particularly ingenious game-within-a-game, using a staggering combination of command blocks and wiring that I can't even pretend to understand! Mario's enemies act much as they should, coin blocks dispense rewards when hit from below, and...well, jesper explains it fairly well!

Of course, you don't have to limit yourself to merely WATCHING Super Mario Bros in Minecraft, you can get the map, resource packs, and more, by ! Keep in mind, this map currently (as of this writing) requires Snapshot 14w18b or higher to run!

Be right back, I have goombas to stomp...

  • Bioshock (and Tons of Other Stuff) Revisited

    • By Sacheverell May 11, 2014
    • Category IconNews
    • 15

It wasn't long ago that we saw a massive recreation of Bioshock Infinite's Columbia city, as seen at Time.com. Ever wondered how to get your hands on that map? What if I told you that map was available? Why stop there - what if I told you that the team responsible for that map has 61 other maps like it, each a detailed wonderland?

The Voxelbox creative Minecraft server - responsible for untold numbers of incredibly detailed buildings, landscapes, cities, and more - is putting out their numerous creations for the public to download and use! Each day, they release a new map (up to 41 as of this writing), until all 61 maps are available for you to enjoy!

And here, I can barely manage to build a mud hut.

Every map has an album to look through, as well as a worldfile, schematic, or both! I could go on about these maps all day, but really, nothing I say can do them justice. They speak for themselves just fine:

    Seriously.

    WHERE TO GET THESE MAPS

  • Denmark in Minecraft - All Of It

    • By Sacheverell Apr 28, 2014
    • Category IconNews
    • 83

People build all kinds of things in Minecraft, from houses, to massive buildings, to entire fantasy realms. Today is the first time I've ever seen an entire country modeled in the game, and it's a 1:1 scale!

This model of Denmark takes up approximately 4000 billion blocks, and over a terabyte of disk space. The model was produced using publicly available information - such as satellite photos, maps, and more - to generate the map as accurately as possible. Originally designed for use in classrooms, this amazing map can be downloaded in 10 square-kilometer sections, just in case you don't have the drive space for the whole country.

Interested in touring Denmark for yourself? Check out the download here!

NOTE: Both the source article and download page are in Danish, and may require translation, if you aren't fluent in the language already.

  • Mod Spotlight - Redstone Paste Mod

    • By Sacheverell Apr 20, 2014
    • Category IconNews
    • 46

Do you like to build contraptions with redstone? Most players at least experiment with this highly versatile mechanic of Minecraft, but it does come with some frustrating downsides. "Wouldn't it be easier if you could just stick redstone lines to walls and ceilings?" is a question I often hear (both from others, and myself). Lucky for us, that question has been answered!

Redstone Paste Mod, by FyberOptic, adds a new form of redstone dust into the game, allowing you to transmit redstone signals across a variety of surfaces, including ceilings and walls. Also included are sticky repeaters and sticky comparators, to keep your redstone current strong, or do complex logic no matter where you decide to run your paste.

The placement of the paste is uniquely different than normal redstone, however. It can be applied to any of the four directions of a block face (top, bottom, left, right), allowing you to create compact redstone paths, and only direct current in the directions you desire. Individual segments can be removed as well, so you don't have to tear down the entire wiring system just to fix, update, or improve one small section! There is much, much more, but I'll let you discover that for yourself.

One of the biggest complaints about redstone wiring has been limited space - you can only place one wire per block, and even then, only on top of blocks. With Redstone Paste, you can place it anywhere, and create much more complex devices without taking up quite so much space. Neat!

WHERE CAN I GET THIS MOD

You can check out Redstone Paste Mod right here, in this thread!

  • Modpack Spotlight - Agrarian Skies

    • By Sacheverell Apr 14, 2014
    • Category IconNews
    • 145

The (Minecraft) world has ended, and there is nothing left. Well, ALMOST nothing; Code Wizards meddled in the balance of nature, and released hordes of monsters from other dimensions on an unsuspecting world. Not satisfied with just destroying human life, the monsters rampaged across the world eating everything they could find, and leaving nothing in their wake but empty void.

Now, it is up to you to rebuild an entire world from nearly nothing.

Agrarian Skies is a popular modpack made by Jadedcat, which takes the classic idea of a skyblock game, and cranks it up many, many notches. You start with a quest book, which guides you on your journey. Numerous spells, tools, and machines are at your disposal to complete your arduous task. However, be warned: this is not a modpack for the faint of heart! Loads of challenges, monsters, and more await you on your journey. Do you have what it takes to build an entire world?

One final note - you have a limited number of lives. That's right, you can only die so much before reality has had enough, and leaves you dead forever!

The quest book's introductory quest has a full voice-over as well, done by your favorite MCF news writer!

    HOW DO I PLAY?

If you have the FTB Launcher, you can play simply by downloading the Agrarian Skies modpack, and starting up your game!

  • Goat Simulator in Minecraft?!

    • 19

Have you played (or seen) Goat Simulator? Of course you have! You're a savvy internet dweller, and know EXACTLY what I'm talking about. Goats. Smashing things. Running. Basically, being a goat and/or possibly a highly elaborate April Fool's prank. Goat Simulator!

has devised an incredibly clever way for you to become a goat, in Minecraft! Okay, less of a goat, more of a sheep, but the end-result is basically the same - run into things at high speed, sending blocks, chests, and everything else sailing off into the distance! Cause chaos! Grief as a farm animal! Weee!

In this video, Mhykol and I help Seth test out this latest crazy invention. Want to play it yourself? Join on "us.playmindcrack.com", then head to the museum!
