Are you ready? Really? You're really ready? Okay, here we go: THE 1.7 (pre-release) IS READY FOR TESTING!
There are so many things coming in 1.7, I almost can't keep track of them all. Many of them are things we have covered over the last few weeks, but the sheer volume of awesome contained in this update is staggering. Between doubling the amount of biomes in the game, and tons of changes to get ready for the Plugin API(!!!), this really is the update that changed the world - both in-game, and out. Let's see what's coming!
- New world generation!
- Double the amount of biomes, with new trees/flowers/blocks.
- New “Amplified” world option.
- Less ocean, more awesome.
- New blocks!
- Two new types of wood.
- Stained glass! With both blocks and panes.
- Packed ice, red sand, podzol.
- Lots of new flowers, including double-tall versions of current plants.
- Fishing!
- Added more type of fish.
- Redone the fishing mechanics. Can now catch junk and treasure too.
- Fishing rod enchantments!
- Maps!
- Put them in an item frame and hang them on your wall. They’re extra big!
- Lots of new colours for lots of blocks!
- Now will less lag!
- Achievement & Statistics overhaul!
- Now both world (or server) specific.
- In multiplayer, it’s announced to everybody when you get an achievement.
- You can move your mouse over this in the chat to see what it was!
- Some new achievements and statistic types were added.
- Zoomable achievements screen!
- Multiplayer enhancements!
- Servers can now put a 32×32 image called “server-icon.png” in their folder, that you will see on your server list.
- You can see who’s online before joining a server; move your mouse over the player count!
- Lots of hidden preparation for allowing name changes.
- Resource pack changes!
- You can now have multiple selected.
- They can completely re-do your sounds, adding new ones or changing current ones.
- Servers can now recommend a resource pack for you to use.
- Chat & command improvements!
- New commands to spawn mobs or blocks of any type.
- Command block minecart!
- Clickable links to achievements and items.
- Click on somebody’s name in the chat to message them!
- Lots and lots of internal work!
- Completely rewrote how the network (multiplayer) works.
- Completely rewrote the sound manager.
- New graphics options.
- Basic shader support testing.

Less lag?
I have 9999999999999999999% moar lag.
I really hope it can lag less..
Yes, I'm so freaking sick and tired of them claiming that there is less lag/better performance ect. It is all LIES. Most notably in chunk updates are completely broken.
I can effectively halt chunk loading simply by rotating my view. Try it yourself everyone. Create a map, fly up a bit to see the terrain around, and spin your view at a viewable but decent pace, Open your F3 and watch as the chunk updates hover around 0 for 99% of the time while the area within render distance stays less than half loaded. I can do this until ultimate boredom or my arm grows weary. Stop, give a second or two and they jump up to ~40. Start spinning again, and it all comes to a grinding halt.
Back in Alpha and Beta days, where performance is supposedly "crap". I could allocate 4G of ram and practically have insta load terrain even on new generation. Now it doesn't make any difference. I can allocate 16G and Minecraft just sits there only ever using ~400mb at any point in time, failing to do but 2 thing at a time.
Mojang is getting good with the propaganda. Official announcement of improved performance every snapshot and release. People shout the praise as performance actually it continues to degrade.
Yeah, that was a mistake in the original post (on mojang.com) and has been corrected.
The change they did was to remove giant oceans that were thousands of blocks in all directions.

Worst single player mode. Now their uses another network system that just print in my console things like:

The thing that I most hate in MC that SP mode uses a server. WTH is the sense of that?!

You mean what by name change? Changing your ingame name? Hell no It can open to bad peoples (Abuse I guess) so anyone can steal a name (Probably already used nope) but like someone can call himself SethBling1 or whatever... oh well I hope they wont add that feature.
I remember it was 128x128... earlier snapshots it was 64x64.... aaand now its 32x32. Wtf Mojang, why you keep lowering the server icon resolution?? Aye.
Eh well about the Plugin API... I hope it wont block out mods that I use (Reis, Forge, LiteLoader, TabbyC, WDL, Bspkrs, Macros) so I hope they wont do that cause it will be a mess. Sorry if im wrong im just scared when Plugin API is implemented.
Wtf not seriously???? Damn idk if its been a month that 1.6.4 GOT OUT and already 1.7 aye poor servers. I bet 1.7 will break out smaller servers and s*t cause it changes out biomes (Main world will be messed at the end (new chunks)) so um idk...
They didn't even finished, theres still the "Super Secret Settings" so its not done, it should be Shaders.. and allowing us to pick a shader we want, not randomly... or else do that and make a random button?
Hell no... damn they're planning it f*k. Prepare so griefers will invade out servers and can lead to abuse. Yes alot of peeps will use it good but some some will abuse it. So prepare yourself
Mojang messed up the network ever more worse. Server lookup/pinging is badly done, IPs are hidden I prefered to see them! They're not hidden!! Now I guess I need to rename ALL of servers I have in my list with their IPs damn...
Hey. Mojang. I have a SRV domain and it says "Can't connect to server." The SRV domain is working and on 1.6.4 it works too! I check other 1.6.2/4 servers and they have SRV domains & without SRV.
Still pinging out server is way more slower.
For your reply Kode, I have not noticed any lag (probably im on a gaming computer) I'll test it out on my 3 year old laptop. And I dont play much SP since im always on Multiplayer servers.

Yes 1.7 adds new things but for me its bad and it will mess out everything. I have found a bug, when you hear a sound, quickly press ESC and you'll see the sound stops immediately. then repress ESC then the sound continue to play and it ends. In 1.6.4 the sound still plays. Thats normal for 1.6.4, but not for 1.7.
Also idk what they changed in ressource packs, my custom sounds aren't working anymore.

I have to agree. I use OptiFine and that kept me at a usable playability for a while, but with recent updates I have to use my monster gaming laptop to play MC now. Can't run it with any level of playability on a normal machine. Reminds me of the old days when MS Flight Simulator pushed the hardware to the limit, and the only guys enjoying it had home built rigs.
Much of this is because MC is written in Java. Just not designed well for GPU usage, and as a result it fist-rapes your CPU. Optifine is keeping it check, but you really shouldn't have to run a third party mod just to get something to work. Mojang is busy cashing the checks for those licensing deals (plushies and t shirts) and not fixing the code. The bank keeps rolling in, so what's their motivation to fix things like chunk loading?
Be nice if they implemented cubic chunks. That might buy them another five years or so.
Witches can spawn in mineshafts. Happened to me while playing the snapshot.
They spawn everywhere now, rarely, as of 13w42.

user name could used for the registration for server info whereas a nickname is given to the player for in game reference.
The caps aren't really necessary though :/.
IP ban, or players will have a base username that is added to the ban list that they can't change, but is separate from the display name.
