Grum is hiding! Can you find him?
Yes, he really is there!
A new Snapshot is out!
What got added? Stuff! What got fixed? Bugs! Be sure to report any bugs that didn't get fixed by reporting it to the Mojang Atlassian bug tracker.
You don’t want to run the snapshots on an existing world if you don’t want to run into chunk errors. There is a known issue with world structures such as Nether Fortresses not transitioning to 1.7 from 1.6, but we will be bringing out a 1.6.3 shortly to fix this.
To get snapshots, open your launcher and press the “New Profile” button. Call it “snapshots” and check the box saying “Enable experimental development snapshots” and save. To switch to the normal version, you can select it in the dropdown at the bottom left corner of the launcher.

Yes.
That's been there sience 1.6
What? You can still use them. I got in a map with those blocks and it still looked normal.
Has anyone wondered why we would need larger nether portals?
The old 2 X 3 worked perfectly fine. Is there something coming down the pike we will want to take into or out of the nether that requires a 23 X 23 portal? Why the odd size of 23 X 23? Why not 15 X 15 (based on a 16 X 16 frame)? Why not something base-8 like the stacks in our inventory and chunk sizes? Just wondering.
P.S. add some more mobs!!!!!!!!
Don't get me wrong - I love Minecraft - but it has never felt like it left beta, and that's a problem seeing as how it's been released for a long while now. In what other game would players tolerate so many bugs? I think that's why they're getting away with this. It's probably much easier to add mobs or blocks than it is to fix a bug that has plagued the game forever, and if it makes the players happy to see new blocks then that's good enough.
They already Optimized chunck loading if you actually played it its alot smoother than it was in earlier updates
I believe the main reason is for easier ghast fishing. Besides that, they want to allow designers to be able to have portals in their oddly shaped homes. (i.e. three wide portal for their path to evilness or whatever) You are right, though, there are other things that may have been better to add - I wrote a whole post on it.

I have been playing it and it doesn't seem very smooth to me. If I can look off into the distance and see a mineshaft from above ground then it is not done. If I have to stop my boat because I don't really know what's in front of me and I don't want to crash into blocks that haven't loaded yet, then it's not done. What other released games have these problems? None that I can think of. It's more of a beta thing.
I appreciate that they're adding new content, but it's not a substitute for fixing major bugs. And they're adding way too much content. I don't want to have to spend hours researching changes made to the game if I stop playing for a month and then return. I'd rather return to see that the engine was improved, and I'd love it if they made it easier to install and (de)activate mods.
By the way, last I heard they had planned on releasing the mod API back in January. Was that ever done?
fish packed ice and fishing rod enchants new bioms diferent size nether portals alot of stuff achievment give /summon why has no1 commented this?!
Everyone has commented this, just not here because those features were added in the past 1.7 snapshot 13w36a. See: http://www.minecraftforum.net/news/881-13w36a-snapshot-ready-for-testing/
