1.7 Sneak Peek: Sunflowers, Falling Particles
One of the curiosities of Minecraft has always been compass directions. The in-game compass has not ever pointed north, but rather at the player's spawn point. Most people generally assumed that east and west was easily determined by the sun and moon rising and setting, but other things - like cloud movement - always added to the confusion. So, who has the answer?
The humble sunflower!
While many of the upcoming developments of 1.7 have been kept under wraps, Jeb revealed this delightful addition to the game, which is confirmed to always face east! Very nice!
Dinnerbone also gave us a brief look into an upcoming feature which will help with immersion - impact particles! Basically, if you fall more than a certain distance, then you will generate particles from the impact of whatever block you land on. Sweet!
Keep an ear to the ground, because there is a lot more coming up, and you don't want to miss it!
Modders can barely make a single small, unoptimised, unpolished feature in 48 hours. It's not as easy as you make it out to be.
Maybe because many people who want it already have it? There's a limited amount of people in the world who would be interested in any version of MC.
They made a new launcher for a reason. Just revert back to whatever version you want.
It should be applied when something major than moar redstone get added to the game (like the Alpha 1.2.0 Halloween Update added a new dimension and biomes), not when a new transportation method is added to the game.
-Moat-
- Terrain generation enhanced: the number of biomes will almost double.
- new biomes: Clay Mountains, Redwood Forest, Cliff.
- Oceans will have 2 biomes, a coastal and a deep one.
- the current/old biomes will have variants.
- cliffs, canyons, fancier and tree-covered mountains
- UI improvement.
- New decorative elements: sunflowers and falling particles.
- bug fixes, no durability loss on a miss sword attack, lighting error fix.
(could we expect some Easter Bone for 1.7? :3)
But those who don't care or have no interest in new plants AND has complaints against mojang and Jeb will criticize it for not being what
they wanted.
Face it. Mojang have to satisfy different types of customer.
Dude, as of this point, you are speaking out of your underside. Go to http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Upcoming_features to see the UPCOMING FEATURES that are confirmed. They seriously aren't JUST adding sunflowers and impact particles... We have tons of new biomes, GREAT biome additions and changes, to make a less "boring, ugly game". Don't click the link to not see you're being overly dramatic? Here, I can help you.
New Biomes
Clay Canyon biome[2] jokingly referred to as "Disco Mountains".[3]
Composed of multiple colored hardened clay.
Dead bushes spawn in this biome.
Redwood Forest biome.[4]
Contains 2x2 Spruce trees.
Will have a grass block variant known as Podzol.[5][6]
Currently obtained only by the silk touch enchantment.[7]
Contains dirt blocks that do not allow grass to grow.
They have a data value of 1.
Only obtainable with /give because there is no visual difference.[8][9]
Moss Stone "boulders" are scattered around in this biome.
Dead Bushes, Mushrooms, and Ferns spawn in this biome.
A cliff technical biome.[10]
Main block is stone.
Like Steep hills, not completely vertical.
Possibly a Skylands-like world type.[11]
Improvements & Changes
Possibly changes to oceans.[12][13][14]
Improved biome transition/generation.[14]
Spruce Trees will generate in Extreme Hills biomes OR a variant of Extreme Hills (Jeb mentioned adding variants of existing biomes).[15]
Snow may now generate depending on Y level, with noise variation.[16]
Biome dependent.[17]
[edit] Gameplay
Improvements & Changes
Changes to fishing mechanics.[18][19][20][21][22]
Redoing the achievements and statistics system.[23]
Will be per world/server.[24]
New scoreboard functions.[25][26][27][28]
Can now use statistics to create objectives; anything that statistics can track can be used as an objective (can also track achievements).
This is the reason why statistics/achievements were changed to be stored per world/server.
Falling now has particle effects.[29]
[edit] Blocks & Items
Additions
Possibly Cherry Trees added by Patrick Geuder.[30][31]
They vary "seasonally" by having leaf blocks change color every fourth day for three minutes.[32]

What appears to be Lavender.[36]
Grown up to two blocks in height.
Pink Paeonias, called Paeonia.[37]
Several colors of Tulips.[38]
What appears to be two block tall grass.[36]

MC-26608 - /spreadplayers confirmation text is wrong
And the Playstation "Sales"? Dude, it isn't even AVAILABLE yet, it's just confirmed to be ADDED, you dunce. Xbox sales are still number 1, so that hasn't "slowed". and PC as shown above is taking a turn for the better. Jeb and Dinnerbone are saving this game. And if you really want to know the truth behind your precious little Red Dragon? It was confirmed by NOTCH, not Jeb or Dinnerbone, and still was never added. It was during the 8th Seecret Friday update. (No, I did not mispell Secret, they spelt it that way...). A lot of those planned features change only because of better ideas or the coding was much harder than they thought it would be. Coding isn't all cookies and sugarcane, you know...!
Please don't say that "Minecraft is a ripoff of Terraria, or I will have to go ape... It came out before... Thanks you! (Hey, at least these flowers can tell direction, unlike... Compasses. Terraria is 2D, no real directions besides left and right. ~ By the way, F3 isn't for telling direction, it's a debug tool!
*Sigh*... Do I need to pull out the update list again? Sure. Go here. Plenty more things then just a sunflower... http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Upcoming_features
People, please be less... complainitive (I don't even think that's a word! I am so tired of listening to complaints I am making up words...)!
Mojang is saving Minecraft, they have so many new things in store! They are even adding more into the launcher to let you go back to previous versions! (They have already done so, but they will be adding even more! You can already play all Beta and all Alpha versions, they even have the Cavegame! But they will be adding Indev/Infdev later on.) So if you hate the new Minecraft, keep it to yourself, because nobody wants to hear it, and immerse yourself in the old versions. Thank you! GOOD DAY!
I agree. Not everyone will like every update (and should just sit tight for the next one they will like). I actually have something more to add here, but it goes with another quote below, so I'll wait to say it...
Good grief. I'm just going to say: your opinion, not mine. I've had this game since Alpha (specifically June 1, 2010). Plenty of interesting stuff added.
Doesn't sound like you're a programmer. I can tell you FROM PERSONAL EXPERIENCE that to program a game, it takes a long time. Updates are no different. I did a TEXT RPG and that took months.
Without looking up the official statement on that, no snapshots until Mojang is ready to release them (they need to flesh the game out some more and, besides, they're adding a plethora of biomes and terrain generator changes. Personally, I don't want a snapshot until the final biomes & terrain generator code is in place. After that, all that should be left are, maybe items, definately bug fixes.
again, since Alpha. Pandas NEVER confirmed. Dragons are a little more ambiguous, but to code them is so complex, they need TIME to get them in. For all we know, they're figuring out how to implement them and will surprise us with an update one day. But NOT confirmed to be added.
I made it to page 15 before zoning out on this thread and just replying to what I have listed.
Ditto that. Not sure what to expect, but everything is more or less improving. Even not liking something, it grows on ya.
...and this is where I was saving something I'd said WAY up in one of the first quote replies in this post: if you got the game in Alpha, all updates are free. That clause was removed for Beta (so if you bought the game in Alpha, guaranteed free updates for life. Beta or beyond: they could charge for updates. If they wanted.
As someone else had said in this very topic: F3 is debug, not actually how you're supposed to legit tell in game (look at the sun/moon/clouds if you want an in-game way.... this will just make it easier).
From everything I've been following before deciding to see what the forums said, I've read or heard that this was a Biome Update (with improvements to the terrain). I saw a sunflower and thought "okay... This will be interesting... more interested in the biomes and the terrain, though..." It's a SMALL addition to everything else that is being added.
(above quote because I agree (and have said basically the same thing, like, 5 times now))
Yay. Another person who actually knows what's going on and not focusing on a couple of MINOR features.
No use for you maybe. Too boring to seek out a saddle (also in Nether Fortresses as well, btw)? What did you even buy the game for? Hay Bale blocks: also used for building (seriously, I love the building use of this block, especially on floors).
Tool tiers: why? everything there is just fine as is. Use a mod if you want more.
Biomes: lmao. Are you kidding me? You must live under a rock (especially with all the "research" I've seen you do... you haven't noticed...) This is primarily a BIOME/TERRAIN UPDATE. (also, use a mod if you want more)
Mobs: I'd rather they only add a few at a time and not overwhelm us. Besides, new mobs are rarely, if ever, introduced without two or more. Ocelot/Cat, Wolf/Dog, Horse/Donkey, Witch/Bat, etc... (again, use a mod if you want more).
All in all, I think everything is going pretty well. I just have to know: is this how these threads discussing the new items usually goes? If so, too much ignorance for me.
I just wish that since adding Nether Brick (item) to craft Nether Brick (block), Nether Brick Fences crafting would be changed to use the item (even if you don't get as much as a result as it'd still be more resource friendly anyway)... maybe even Nether Brick Fence Gate, though not necessarily...
There's another thing I'd like to point out: the way how new features are showcased by Mojang and 3rd party sites like MCF. Depending on how poorly or well presented they showcase a new feature, the public tends to receive it (more) negatively or (more) positively.
An example: stained clay blocks and colored wooden blocks.
- Stained clay block was shown with examples of possible uses. People liked it.
- Colored wooden blocks was shown in a palette with horribly saturated colors. People hated it, raged, said "why?! it's no use"... until a guy from Reddit made a barn with colored wooden blocks, if he had some. Then people regretted. Too late. Dinnerbone had given up on the idea.
The same thing goes for sunflowers. A lot of people think 1.7 will be about sunflowers and nothing else, the reactions tell that... but there's a huge list of upcoming features that most of us is not aware of.
