The Horse Update: 1.6 Is Now Live!
1.6 is now out on the Minecraft Launcher, and ready to play! David and Toby go over many of the new features - enjoy!
GETTING THE NEW LAUNCHER
You need the most recent Minecraft launcher (if you do not have it already)! Remember, the old launcher is no longer supported, and you will need this version in order to continue receiving updates and support!

Everything about the horses is cool - leads, armor, hay, name tags. Had a blast riding them around earlier.
Flew around to a few nether fortresses and the loots are very very good in most of them.
Resources packs and new hunger system are quite nice from what I can tell.
Neutral: I like the stained clay, but personally I think the "claylike-tinge" on the blocks is a bit weird, mainly considering white looks like pink and black looks like brown, etc. The block itself looks really nice, the colors will just need to be worked around slightly.
Cons:
Not too many, really. I personally am not a huge fan of the look of the launcher myself - its very bland feeling, like something you'd have seen in a computer program in the Windows XP type of graphics. Some of the features in it are cool, but aesthetic wise it could use some work.

Also, the charcoal retexture looks nice, and the coal block looks like it would be good to use as asphalt to make roadways in a town type build and such.
Overall, a great update!
Its quite possible that "Far" renders more chucks than 1.5.2. And with more mobs, and now horses, along with whatever else they added for that matter, could be more taxing on your system.
Although, I haven't tried 1.6 yet. Probably won't till mods like optifine gets added.
If you are running on Mac OS X 10.5.8 the new update is not working mojang recommends buy the upgrade to snow leopard 10.6

EDIT: Thank you for the information. I think I will keep my old launcher.
Then stop playing MC on a toaster.
It goes back to 1.5.1 if you want.
Seriously? lol. As an ex-server owner, I sure hope that they don't release a build for a couple weeks at least. I haven't followed bukkit since I stopped hosting the server about six months ago, but expect a month for a recommended build. I'd wait for the first recommended build to come out before trying out a dev version. Even then, plugins won't update till the recommended is released so about twoish months.
The launcher acts more as a client-side server, and afaik this hasn't been implemented yet. So any launchers will need to be updated/redesigned to utilize this new method. Lots of client changes, so don't expect anything from the modders for awhile.
but starting or opening a previous world crashes the
game instantly...FIX IT, FIX IT NOW!
