At Minecon 2012, there was talk of Minecraft Pi, a nifty bit of portable fun on one of the world's most compact functioning computers. In December of 2012, it became available for use. Now, you can download it and try it out for yourself!
So, what is Pi, anyway? Why is this such a big deal? Well, the Raspberry Pi: a cheap, credit card-sized computer that totally works, and Minecraft now has a version to run on it! "Credit card-sized" isn't an exaggeration either, and while it is easy to assume that Raspberry Pi wouldn't run that well, it is a surprisingly robust little computer:
Here is your startup guide! No, seriously.
Aside from being one of the few legally free versions of Minecraft out there, Minecraft Pi runs pretty well, with an experience very similar to Pocket Edition.

Anyone want to place bets on how long it'll take for the novelty of the technology to wear off and for people to realize that a credit-card sized computer is a pretty dumb idea?
I mean yeah, its kinda cool that they can make a credit-card sized computer, but just because you can doesn't mean you should, not to mention the pressing question of why you would even want to.
It only runs on the Pi.
Yes people do care about this.
You can use these for much more than just a fun little computer.

I know someone who hooked up their RaspberryPi as a complex alarm clock. Yes, most people will probably just get the RaspberryPi because they think its cool to have a credit card sized computer, but there is much more potential behind these little boards. I use mine just for coding simple games, and I am thinking of ordering another Pi to use in a automatic window blinds opener/closer. Also, you said "why would you even make a credit card sized computer?" The answer to that is that now people can buy a cheap, compact, computer that can be used in MANY ways. It isn't made to be used as a home computer, it is made for programmers/engineers. I don't even see why people would buy one of these JUST to have one. Seems kind of idiotic. So I do agree with you, because I also think the popularity will die down eventually. People will get over the fact that we can make computers this small. But I disagree with you also, because I think these are much more than just "credit card computers", I think they are the beginning of a new age in electronics. Also, the makers did not only make these computers because they can, but because they had a great idea. The idea was to introduce these little machines, so that more people would have opportunities to do things they couldn't do before.
P.S. I hope this doesn't start an argument. Just expressing an opinion.
Sincerely,
ThirstBuster
PS: Raspberry Pi + USB Bluetooth + Linux OS + 2 LEGO NXT Robots. = FUN!
Raspberry Pi + Minecraft = EPIC FUN! =-D
On the other hand, Nice to see Minecraft on uncommon platforms.
