Mojang is ramping up to release the Very Scary Update (1.4), but what to do in the meantime? Well, this week's Snapshot is out, and ready for your viewing pleasure! What awaits us this week?
- Nether loads faster when going through a portal
- In creative mode, teleportation is instantaneous
- Updated and added new sounds by C418
- Added a sound for climbing up Ladders
- New block-placing sounds: Wood, Stone, Plants, Sand, Gravel, although unintended by C418
- New footstep sounds: Sand, Gravel, Soulsand, Grass Block, and Stone
- New mob sounds: Cow, Pigs, Enderman, Zombie, and Skeleton
- New tool sounds: Flint and Steel, Shears (when shearing sheep)
- Lava and Flowing Water now have constant noise
- Added level up sound, but will be changed later for a shorter one
- Added a passive mob (Bat)
Sleeps during the day
Hangs on the ceiling when idle, starts flying when players come near
- Added a hostile mob (Witch)
Regenerate health over time
Hold an empty bottle and rise their noses when attacking
Drink potions of instant health and fire resistance to defend themselves in combat
Rarely drop potions of instant health and fire resistance
Is immune to some splash potions
Does not spawn naturally (yet), but a Spawn Egg exists for it in Creative Mode
- Command block target parameters have been upgraded, click here for details
- Beacon artwork was changed
- The beam of light was changed
- Item Frames no longer despawn when 20 blocks away.
- Wood blocks are now rotated differently. Instead of using the player’s position, it will rotate based on the face it is placed upon, like a lever (this is mainly a test).
- Silverfish Source Blocks have a chance of spawning in caves

For everyone who abhores new sounds: You can easilly change the sound.
For everyone who thinks the witches are men: They are genderless.
For everyone who dont get sound: Just wait a few minutes for the new sounds to download.
For everyone acting like 3 year olds complaining about how the game is so broken and needs to be fixed: No one else gets chunk errors, huge lag spikes, and everything else, ITS NOT MOJANG ITS YOU!
For all you who think mojang is breaking the game: You dont seem to grasp the meaning of Minecraft. Its a sandbox game. That means you can do whatever you want. Dont like an update? Dont use it. Dont like some features? Dont use it. Just try and grasp that you can actually do things like that rather than whining about it all day long like a 7year old.
For every other dumb kid out there: Complaining isn't going to get you anywhere. Especially here. If you hate minecraft contact Mojang and tell them what you want changed. Complaining here won't help.
These people pop up every week, but thank you for laying down the hammer of reason.
Dinner bone has said he does read some of this forum so some of the suggestions may be taken to heart at Mojang, the whinging however definitely will not.

I actually like that vs the seemingly random pops currently in official version
1. I don't know if this happened to anyone else, but when I got close to an Enderman a soundbit played that's similar to sounds in Slender. Scared the **** out of me! Not sure if it was an Enderman sound or a cave sound.
2. Bats are great! But for those who are making mob systems are going to have to fix them. Seems like Mojang is trying everything to combat these systems, and now they're using bats. I suggest putting levers underneath your spawning pads. It should work, but don't quote me on it. I haven't tested it. If not I think replacing the pads with upside down half slabs should do it.
I do too. Even now when I hear it I think it's a slime (idk why xD)
1. yes it's a new enderman sound
2. assuming bats stay as they are in this snapshot, yes there will have to be some adjustments made in mobspwaners.. though not much as apparently bats can happily co-exist in the same 'space' as a creeper.

often its not a matter of fixing things when it comes to new aesthetics like sounds so much as trying something new out, I'm fairly sure Mojang will be paying some attention to how the new sounds 'test'
*whew* someone else. i'm fine with a couple of the sounds, but the new ones for wood and stone and ladders seem too..... detailed, if that's an adequate adjective. it makes the textures look less apt for the sounds; they no longer match. the new sounds are more like those you would hear when walking through a concrete hallway in a game such as L4D.

I'm okay with them trying something new, but come on, changing the sounds that have been around for years is too drastic. The original sounds are all symbolic of Minecraft, like it or not. Changing them is a bad idea.

As for the sounds go, not all is bad.
Grass has to high of a hiss, probably would be better for sand.
Sand Sounds as if you are moving on dirt.
Snow, actrully sounds crunchy and wet, like snow is suposed to be
Wood and Planks, Sorry but that is just horrible. You hit the intital slap of your foot then a squeak like loose floor boards, But if that doesn't sound bad enough there is a Goblin effect( Ever use that patch as a syntesizer?) What I mean is there is this bubbles and wet SPLOSH sound at every end of the squeak and you run or walk on the planks it echos and builds up. Its so un real and annoying for that after effect to be there. Get a small 2x4 or something and a pair of shoes and record the sound when you clonk them on it, but really sorry to say that the sound is really bad with the wood.
Oddly the constont water flow sound I didn't notice and sounds the same, not shure if its just me.
The bats are quite a neat idea and I think as with all mobs that they should drop something. What they will drop you may wonder? Well what of their wings? You always hear something like ,Eyes of Newt, Crocodile Tounges and bat wings in witches brews. So why not have it use toward potion making? Just an Idea.
Endermen are actrully now a bit more scarry as that increase in that sound effect puts an increase in dread not to look away. XD Pretty interesting.
I am still testing and checking things out so will continue to give ideas, criticism and more suggestions.
The becon block I do like the new texture since its almoust like the original WIP block, which had the blue outline. But I agree with the other coments about the spining block inside. That is what made it really unique, almoust like a traped neather star.
PS: Still waiting for Lamb Chops. All other animals drop their meat and I want my Lamb
Aube bats could be like slimed and only spawn at ceration levels and only on full moon , I hope the add real pumpkins , ones that don't grow with a face on them (extream side note , water content please)

I'm ok with the more subtle ones, that keep a bit of the symbolism intact, but the really big changes, such as the wood and stone (and yet another "fapping mob". stupid spiders...) are too far out of it to be happy with.
