What goodies have you found in this week's Snapshot? Tell us about it!
And not the Valve way for TF2, two years between updates that are terrible.
Just use MultiMC or some other launcher that allows you to have multiple instances of Minecraft, that way you can have your 1.2.5, 1.3.1, or whatever other versions you want, while also having a vanilla and "new snapshot" version of the game...
Also for all the people talking about "stealing" ideas from mods...the mod you kept mentioning , is not the first one ever to have added mob heads in...there were atleast 2 others before that , and 1 for sure that did a much better job at implementing them and giving them a use .
Also , I know a few modders that would absolutely love if their ideas were added in game , even if not as good as theirs...it would save them alot of time and let them move onto other projects .
Bad parts of update: Wither summoning method.
I like the aspect of using the (charred?) skeleton heads for summoning a boss, but creating a golem? That's kind of silly. If you arranged the skulls in a way that created an area that the Wither would spawn in every new moon, I would be intrigued. Instead, we slap some heads on some blocks and we lavishly get "repaid" for our efforts.
I love everything else, though. Just change the wither spawning method (it's lackluster, as I said) and change the terrain generator and i'll consider 1.4 to be the best update ever. (Heck, just add the new terrain generator and i'll acknowledge the update as such.)
3) Also until Mojang releases the Modding API all mods are technically illegal, so that means that you cant fully claim it.
4) I'm pretty sure noone who mods Minecraft came up with Skyrim, My Little Pony, Midevil weapons, guns, cats, castles, or anything that you say is a "original idea." In other words Mojang can use things from the mods (that aren't based on another game, a show, etc.) without having to give any credit to the modders.
5) The only mod that HAS original ideas(from all the ones I've seen or even heard about) is Mo Creeps and Weirdos,
You might want to read up on derivative works:
http://en.wikipedia....Derivative_work
It is some enlightening reading if you really comprehend it.
While there is legal precedence for people taking parts of what somebody else has done, I don't know what the copyright status of the original author of a creative work might be if that original author copies stuff from those derivative works. What is worse, Mojang doesn't really spell out in clear legal language what the status of mods really is and how that applies if they want to incorporate the ideas back into the game.
A really interesting essay (and a huge wall of text well beyond the reading level of most people who frequent this forum) about the copyright status of mods can be found here:
http://literatigamer...assignment.html
It covers a great many issues about copyright law in general and focuses specifically on mods in particular. This essay certainly deserves wider reading.
Still, I think Mojang should at least acknowledge those who have popular mods doing something they have incorporated into the vanilla game in some way. Jammy's Furniture mod in particular has been around for awhile and it would be hard to suggest that nobody at Mojang had ever seen either any reference to that mod nor used it for inspiration for this particular change.
*Edit* Another very good article can also be found here:

That is a tough sell to make to a judge, particularly because this is considered an "official forum" and that Mojang developers (expressed in the panel discussion at PAX I should note) do in fact read things on these forums. Numerous posts by Mojang staff on the forums show that they are reading things that players are posting here. To suggest that popular mods have never been seen by Mojang staff at any time is sort of stretching the truth here.
Yes, they are busy people and certainly don't have the time to see every post on these forums. I get that. But they do glance through from time to time what is being done and they would be very hard pressed to claim that they never read about particularly popular mods that do something original or unique.
I am not claiming that Mojang simply copied Jammy's software and threw it into the game without acknowledgement, but it is a form of plagiarism to not acknowledge a source of an idea.. particularly if it is pointed out. Perhaps the Mojang development team did come up with idea independently of Jammy. If that is the case, your point here is valid, but even so a sort of acknowledgement that a popular mod implemented something like this earlier would still be a sign of class and pretending like those mods never existed previous to something like this being put into the game is not really a good idea. Even if legally Mojang can simply throw this in without acknowledgement, it doesn't hurt to recognize the efforts of others and give them a pat on the back.
I'm certainly not saying that Mojang needs to royalties to Jammy, but acknowledgement to Jammy's earlier work would be nice. It also isn't too difficult to do either.
nvm. pecefull mode fail.
lol
Ok , what is your peoples fascination with Jammy's mod? Why would you even mention it for mob heads? You do know that there were a number of mods that added mob heads , and implemented it MUCH better then he has in his mod...According to your logic , why would Mojang acknowledge his work , when Jammy doesn't acknowledge others much better work with this particular section of his mod? I haven't seen Jammy say anything either way about this , why are you speaking for him?
Either way , its a moot point...you all need to log into Minecraft , build a bridge , and get over it...
Once again there is no way to tell if Jammy was the first person to think of these ideas just because Jammy made a mod that has some of the same ideas as well as other modders that doesn't mean that Mojang needs to comb the forums and other Minecraft related sites to give people credit for creating something just because they put it in the game.
So it comes down to if your not the mod author of some feature or item that ended up becoming part of the vanilla game then stop complaining. If you are then you should be bringing it up with Mojang if you feel credit is needed not filling the forum with pointless babble about stealing ideas and legal matters that most likely will never escalate over something so petty.
"Stolen"??? Are you kidding me?
You forgot the new crops being implemented in villages
This is already possible: Hold 'W' to begin walking/boating/flying in a specific direction and hit the Alt key. Your screen will lock up. Hit the Alt key again to unlock your screen and see your character auto-traveling until it runs into something or you resume control. This works while sprinting, as well.
