Tripwires?

Over the last week in Snapshots, we have seen a lot of exciting things coming up - Ender Chests, villager trading, the merging of SSP and SMP modes into a fluid, single system - what else could possibly be added to this pile of goodies to make it even better? We can think of one thing - tripwires.

Nathan "Dinnerbone" Adams uploaded this video showing off some experiments with tripwire - it appears that it can be set off by crossing the tripwire boundary (as expected), as well as being set off by "using" it much as one would use a switch or button. What other awesome features are on the horizon? We'll keep you posted as they develop!

A Minecraft Wedding

Anyone in attendance at Minecon 2011 will undoubtedly remember - Matt's proposal to Asia on-stage, alongside Mojang! Their marriage is now official, and the wedding ceremony was something any dedicated Minecraft fan could be proud of - Minecraft-themed Jones Soda, which features many of the in-game items and creatures; a number of high-quality character model statues that were on the showroom at Minecon including Steve, creeper and more. There were also a number of hand-made pieces for their ceremony made by the happy couple and friends, such as Minecraft trees and other bits of the world. Other gems included a Minecraft-diamond necklace, and - something no Minecraft party should be without - a Minecraft cake.

From everyone here at the Minecraft Forum, we would like to congratulate Matt and Asia on having easily the most awesome wedding in history, and wish the happy couple well!

Someone please explain how the benefits of this are that much greater than that of pressure plates and what warrants the time to be spent on the trip wires for them to be added to the game? Bug fixes aside, should time be spent on additional versions of items that already exist in the game or on new, original, quality, exciting ideas and items that will add to the Minecraft experience?

Why am I seemingly the only person that thinks that THE ABILITY TO PAUSE THE BLOODY GAME is more important than trivial things like tripwires that we've managed just fine without so far.

looking at the small size and off-white color of the tripwires, I bet those things would be nearly indetectable when placed on sand.

Heres someones minecraft confession LOL:
I jumped off a 23-meter building knowing that I'd survive the impact with half of a heart left. I blacked out on impact. After 4 months in the hospital, I still can't figure out why my full hunger bar didn't help heal me.

are you kidding me!? that's not a "fluid merge of smp and ssp" that is ****, who the hell had that stupid idea!? now i cannot even play minecraft, it is too buggy, nonsense "out of memory"s everytime, bad rendering, laggy animals while playing single player, THIS IS SO ****ED UP
i don't care if some dumbass noob cries while saying "i want to play online with my friends but i don't know how to create a server because it's too dificult" come on! learn how to make servers, now all we have is an unplayable buggy minecraft with lag even in ssp, i want Notch's minecraft back, **** this merge

i love all the new items except the fact that i think that if i made a mod then it got added to the game it at least should resemble the mod come on notch you nerfed the ender chest ( is it one word ofr two ?) and the trip wire screams mod what is next u gonna make red wire or perhaps copper wire and generators . i say to all modders PATENT YOUR MODS

so many complaints about the new content, except for the game being buggy as hell in recent snapshots the content is a welcome addition in my opinion, the ability to turn more features on or off would be neat, instead of just generated structures. But i'm still totally addicted and hope you mojangsters keep the content rollin!

Tripwire would be great, if it has different purpose, not same purpose with the pressure plate....

This can be easily made by putting 4 pressure plates in a line...

My suggestion is, if this is really added, make the function is to "trip" creatures or ppl...

So, put it in front of your house, when monster walk by it, they will trip, fall, and loose maybe like 2 health

The point is.....sight.... That you can barely see the wire when roaming the world, minding your own buisness. Whilst a big, square, raised pressureplate with only two types of materials (that arenot common for the ground)...well you get the point
