It’s time for the weekly snapshot. Mojang is continuing to work on separating the client from the server, and has fixed a bunch of stuff related to that transition. What else got added? Check it out below:
- Added cocoa plants to jungles
- Added a “large biomes” world type
- Added specific names for the different sandstone and smooth stone blocks
Improvements continue to pour into each snapshot with every passing week, and the new, improved SSP/SMP system continues to be streamlined, adopting a feel not unlike what MCX360 currently uses to connect players to one-another. Want to try this sleek update out?
Get the snapshot here:
Client: Download here
Server: Download here
The client now comes with both the client-side and the server-side JAR files. The file called “minecraft.jar” should be in your “.minecraft/bin” folder as usual, and the “minecraft_server.jar” file should be in a folder called “.minecraft/server”.
seems the 1st and 2nd slot are a bit different too
texture pack maybe? or a reskin of the old tools?
So now, to play Minecraft I must be online all the time...
My internet connection sucks huge amounts of ass.
So now, even if I only want to play Survival single player, I get loads of lag and random disconnects left and right... What the hell...
Is there ANY WAY to actually play offline?
Btw: I already tried deleting the "server" folder and only running the game with the "bin" files like before, NOPE, doesn't work... You MUST HAVE the server files in your Minecraft folder, therefore you can only play the game online even if you are playing single player and have no intention of ever inviting anyone to your map...
Again... what the hell? I hope this isn't final... good thing I kept my 1.2.5 game files intact...
The only thing this is going to do is make it possible to inv other ppl to your world o.o thats all there is to it... o.o

Oh dangit now I cant make up my mind to wait for the new world type or make my new world now =/
ugggh...
Yus.
The time, has come.
EDIT: The server/client thing.
My internet sucks ass, really bad.
But something is keeping lag away from my world. Maybe it's not a bad update after all.
Well, once again, it depends on the players :\
We can make cookies as a food source now which is a plus.
I also like the little pod plants and since you can stand on them and you cannot use shift to prevent falling off them they could be a challenging addition in parkour!
Although I do think they grow to fast.
Large Biomes:
I LOVE this, it makes the geography of Minecraft much more realistic (I value the realism in games a lot)
The problem is, you cannot play minecraft unless you are online...
I repeat, if I have no internet connection, there is absolutely no way or option to play the game offline... not even Single player...
I'm not freaking out and I know it's not final, but understand that this cannot go live like this, because a lot of people won't be able to play Minecraft anymore, me included, because of my dismal internet connection and no other viable internet options where I live, my playing experience would be so horrible, it wouldn't be enjoyable anymore.
Just picture breaking a block in front of you and the damn block popping back into existance over and over, or maybe a creeper you just cannot kill before he blows your face off because of lag...
Not everyone has access to a good internet connection... good enough to play online, at least...
I can't play MMO's because of this...
You have no argument. no one made you play this snapshot. You chose to, so you can't complain.
Also, none of this is FINAL. These features are still in beta.
They didnt even ask people to test the server/client, it was just included, because ITS NOT DONE YET
Agreed, I hate it when that happens in SMP but theyll obviously fix that if everyone would experience it..
Oh well, was just giving the snapshot a whirl, back to my 1.2.5 excessivelly modded client...
"The Meaning of Life, the Universe, and Everything..." at my 42 post, hahaha
