Every one of us picked our Minecraft user name when we signed up on minecraft.net for the first time (and every time thereafter). For most of us, knowing that whatever name was chosen is stuck with us forever is just a part of the game. Still, what if you gave yourself a silly or inappropriate name? What if you're just tired of the one you have? Currently, this means getting another copy of the game - but maybe not for long.
Jeb hinted that username changes might be a feature in the near future, something that Mollstam is looking into currently. While there is no set date - or even a hinted one - for the feature's arrival, it would seem that it's more a matter of "when" than "if" now.
Maybe I can use this opportunity to change my name to "MrFluffykins".

Wiki Skin Overhaul
For years, the Minecraft Wiki has followed the same visual format as many wikis - it's a tried and true look, after all. For one user - namely, Ultradude25, an administrator on the wiki - this just wasn't good enough. Leading the effort to revamp the wiki's appearance, the community has given Minecraft's most popular wiki a complete make-over - head on over and check it out!
Minecraft Wiki will seem quite familiar to forum regulars - keep in mind however, that the visual re-design was done entirely by volunteers! It is, in many ways, another reminder of just how strong the Minecraft community is, and how far it reaches. It's hard to think of another gaming community with such strong dedication, passion and sense of unity. Congratulations to Ultradude25, and everyone who helped him out on this incredibly ambitious project!
Well the people at Mojang already thought of this problem. Just like you said everyone would have a unique id and no matter what you change your username to youre still banned
"If I ban a player “Foo” and he changes name to “Bar”, will he stay banned?
Yes. Same for whitelisted players and oped players. They also keep their inventory, pets, statistics and everything they own on a server."
I don't know if anyone here has posted something like this (too lazy to look through pages of this) but OP should've done his research before posting about this.
This ^
I can see that.
You can always IP ban.
EDIT: Just remembered the uuid system. Never mind the last part of my comment.
So, one day i was going to go play on my account, and it says you need to confirm your email..
and i was very confused, just because i played the day before. i tried to confirm it, and it wouldnt let me.
i have tried everything to get it back, but it says my account name has never been created. im not going to let them steal my money. i go into minecraft and click on my accounts, and the name is there, but i cant play on it... what to do?!?!
Lets look at steam. Steam has done this for many years and to my knowledge Notch even worked with Valve. Sure there are people who change their name every other second, but that can be changed if they put a simple price to changing your name, kind of like what Blizzard did with WoW (possibly other blizzard games, but this was the first one I could think of off the top of my head). 10 bucks would seem a bit pricey, so I say about 2-5$ USD would be good enough. They could probably even put a time limit between changes of the name. Maybe once a week or once a month or just put both in. Maybe if you want to punish or even just teleport to someone and they change their name you could ban or tp to them with the username they came on the server with. Their could also be a database that tracks the original name someone joined the server with.
I'm sure there are tons of other solutions, but let's not forget that Mojang is not dumb enough to just give people the ability to change names without having to do something or have a solution to potential problems.
That would be annoying for shared computer people, I would think. "Huh, why can't I go on this server" "Oh, I got banned from it" "WHAT! THAT BANS ME TOO!?!?!"

I believe that once a username is taken you can not get it back (even if someone switches). If someone changes their name to SkythekidRS the wouldn't be able to because it is taken. Now if only they did this to Minecraft forum account usernames. *wink* *wink*
