This week's snapshot is ready for testing, and while the feature list is short, we think it's a very exciting one:

Added editable books
Wooden half slabs in four colors (and they act as wood instead of stone)
Bug fixing and tweaks, notably about entity collisions, “picking blocks” (creative mode), and chat

Some other, censored stuff

Now you can Shift+Click to put armor on No more drag and drop. Just **** click and you the piece of armor will place automaticly!

Forgive me if its been said earlier in the 22 pages, but BOOKWORM plugin!

My server relies on it for our tutorial. Granted, that is a server plugin, not vanilla, but it allows books to be kept in a bookcase, too. Here is the link for that: http://dev.bukkit.org/server-mods/bookworm/

I'd prefer just making a book and a bookcase than stalking squid. I write with blood!

I downloaded the snapshot but when I go and open a book and quill, the tan background is gone, instead is just a white box but I can still type in it. I tried re installing it but I still have the problem. Can someone help?

locate your .minecraft folder, go into the bin, open the minecraft.jar and one of the folders should be titled "GUI"

if the notepad gui is not there then search around the other folders for .pngs that sound correct.

I found the book.png its in the GUI folder, so it should work but it doesn't.

And now, welcome wooden slabs as the most efficient fuel ever!
150% more efficient than coal and even better than charcoal (and makes it obsolete for fuel)!

8 wood -> 8 charcoal -> 8*8=64 items burned
8 wood -> 8*4=32 planks -> 32*2=64 wooden slabs -> 64*1.5=96 items burned
