- Added a demo mode for non-premium users (won’t be available until Mojang does a full update)
- Added bonus chest option to create world screen
- Added option to enable single-player commands to create world screen
- Updated language files
- Bug fixing and tweaks
Paying attention? If so, you definitely saw the option to add single-player commands! Curious how it works? Wondering exactly what the "bonus chest" option does? Be sure to grab the client and server files below!
The "demo" game is designed to last for 5 in-game days, at which point the world will self-delete and prompt the player to purchase the full version of the game. While a demo of Minecraft has existed for some time, is has not, to date, been incorporated into the main game.
Dinnerbone has also stated that they will be changing the format of ops.txt, white-list.txt, banned-*.txt for 1.3, letting the community know well in advance so mod/plugin makers and anyone else who may tinker with the game can prepare for the changes. As mentioned some time ago in an interview with Jeb, SMP and SSP will likely be merged in the future, making it easier to run small, informal SMP games for friends without the hassle of server and community management. Large servers will likely still persist, only changing somewhat in how they are maintained.
Keep an eye out as we cover more exciting changes in the coming days!
Chests have to be turned on. They're off by default.
You turn off the "cheats" by not typing them.
I have always been against adding optional world-generation features because it would lead to huge numbers of silly options and make world-generation complicated.
Now, they're adding what is possibly the most pointless possible world generation option.
From what I've heard the commands are based off of the multiplayer server commands, so that's probably why that's in there.
Not that I'm against this update, but I think it would be cool to see something to make survival harder in order to balance out all these features that make it way too easy (or at least it seems like it, in my opinion).
Why bother lighting up that huge cave system to try and get more mobs to spawn in your mob grinder, you can just switch to creative and light it up like a boss and take no damage. Or for that matter why bother building a mob grinder when you can just /give yourself what ever you want.
Who's going to bother spending countless amounts of time crawling through an abandoned mineshaft in serach of melon seeds and maybe the stray diamond or 2 when you can just /give yourself all the melon seeds you want? Hell for that matter, why bother building a melon farm when you can just /give yourself melons?
I forgot a suggestion. How about in the next update, when we launch minecraft we just get taken to the End to fight the ender dragon... oh but wait the ender dragon has died from an ingrown toe nail, so we just get taken to the victory screen to watch that endless never ending text... "the Player is aware" the Player can read our thoughts.."
"You has won!"
But I didn't even play?
"But you has won!"
But I didn't even play?!
"But you has won!"
ohhh fug it!
Why bother crying about it when you know the answer?
Do you cheat at everything just because the developers or whoever else gave you cheats to use?
If you had just waited 3 more seconds and thought about it you would have realized that you dont have to do that to play the game, the fact that you are crying about it tells me you will.
Ask anyone who uses Single Player Commands or TMI. It's an option you have, it's not forcing you to 'cheat'. I have TMI, but I can still play a completely vanilla survival world if I want to.
One of the things that makes Minecraft so great is that there's no 'right' or 'wrong' way to play it. Just because you think SPC is 'cheating' doesn't mean it's not useful to other players who want to play the game different than you do.
I know. It's like the argument about Mob Grinders all over again.
You don't, so they didn't add it.
PLUS, when they add Multi-Singleplayer, you'll need it, if it is in the game.
Hopefully not.... I usually just grab all of my updates at my sisters friend's place and bring it home updating my Install there...
The 1 thing in demos I do not like. Limit the demo in other ways Like a world size limit OR you cannot go to the Nether or end w/o buying the game and the demo cannot do multiplayer. Anything but a timed demo they do not do any game justice. Want to know what kind of demo that got me into Minecraft. The free2play weekend back on 9/18/2010.
Side note! With video games being around for more that 20 + years the word multiplayer is not in any spell check dictionary yet WTF???
