Need help using a snapshot? Badprenup has you covered!
1. Download the new snapshot minecraft.jar
2. Navigate to your .minecraft folder (On windows, you can find it by searching for %appdata%)
3. Put the new jar file in the bin folder (OPTIONAL: Back up your old jar file).
4. Open Minecraft via the launcher, how you normally would.
Let us know what you find! Here's a screenshot Jon provided of the new mob, the Iron Golem:
Of course I want to count all of the ores -- all of these items in their block form you find in the ground are "ores". Since the point of mining is to find resources underground, then these all count as stuff you find mining. And there's already enough.
Iron: The mainstay crafting ore, common and used for a ton of useful things.
Coal: Extremely common, but used for an extremely common need.
Diamond: Used exclusively for powerful tools and armor.
Gold: Formerly the 'decorative' ore, now the rarer ore used for making a few very useful things (like powered rails and gold apples)
Lapis Lazuli: The new decorative ore, since gold no longer is exclusively decorative. Having a block that's pretty, and isn't costing you making other things by using it for decoration, is great in a game that's also about building cool things.
Redstone: Amazing little ore, this, enabling one of Minecraft's best examples of complexity-from-simplicity -- whole computers made from wires and NOR gates.
So, what exactly do we need more ores for? We've covered all the bases from crafting to computing to simply making **** look awesome, to letting you dig up new stuff as efficiently as possible.
What is copper going to add to the game? What is it going to be for, and why can't that use iron or gold instead? How is it fundamentally different? You've implied you want it to be even more common than iron, so, nothing as good as what iron is used for? Awesome!
What is another end-game option for tools going to add? "Oh it's diamond but stronger." Wow, that really added a lot to the game! Or maybe it's a little more durable, but mines less quickly. So... diamond only slightly different. Yeah now my mining experience is really enriched.
We already have 4 levels of tools that are identical except for their speed and durability stats. More of the same is not actually more.
"More of the same because more is inherently better even if it adds nothing to the game but 'more'" is not a philosophy the makers of Minecraft share with you, and thank God for that. There are some mod makers that agree with you though, so you should check those out.
I went back to 1.1 and it is still screwed up.
AIGHT!
Keep the snapshots rolling! More focus on cats + original game mechs., plz!
Also, are they EVER gonna release the ACTUAL 1.2 update? At this rate, 1.2 is gonna be bigger than 1.0, and that was the official release!!!!
Still, this is good stuff. I would like more mechanical blocks like pistons, but whatevs. Doesn't change the fact that this is gonna be amazing!!
EDIT: I thought I got it, but I was thinking of something else.
Stack 2 different half slabs or anything else that takes half a block on top each other w/o the gap. THis would include red stone and repeaters. Would be nice to be able to hide red stone in a half block high gap in the floor.
I agree. Take the stuff that isn't entirely bugged, and patch it in. Call it 1.1.2 if you have to. :tongue.gif:
And of course, upside-down stairs are awesome! Hah, now I can finally smoothen the undersides of my ships!
It was the same in the 1.9 pre-releases it you hold O it i will zoom out really far nearly infinitely. it will be removed in the full release like it was in the 1.9 if not the next snapshot. pay attention. you look like a fool when ever you flip **** about some new awesome thing that's already happened before. its like being in the suggestions forum.
I cant tell if your being funny. or your just incredibly stupid...
