Need help using a snapshot? Badprenup has you covered!
1. Download the new snapshot minecraft.jar
2. Navigate to your .minecraft folder (On windows, you can find it by searching for %appdata%)
3. Put the new jar file in the bin folder (OPTIONAL: Back up your old jar file).
4. Open Minecraft via the launcher, how you normally would.
Let us know what you find! Here's a screenshot Jon provided of the new mob, the Iron Golem:
I think I made a pretty good case. There should at the very least be a nether ore. Currently there is no good reason to mine in the nether except to gather netherrack for eternal fires. It is so plentiful one trip covers you for a life time of a play for the environement you are in. I think it is pretty clear that something is missing here.
Again it is called "mine" craft. I already granted that there are 6 ores if you include non-metals so restating it doesn't make the argument stronger. I love every one of them just as you state. But yes more is not less. It is more. I wouldn't mind seeing wooden items break very easily and adding a copper level that is just a little better than wood. Gold looks pretty but falls apart quickly as it should, so copper is not equal to gold.
I just have a hard time understanding why people fight so hard for the status quo. Heck Terraraia has many times the number of ores and each one adds to the game. It creates a something to move through so you don't end up at the end game in a few hours. Unless I am in hardcore mode or on a pvp server where other players are after me I am in a full set of diamond armor and diamond tools in hours. That's too fast.
As for better than diamond I didn't mean just stronger but with other properties. Stronger is where you start, it isn't where you end. Alloys would be great. It would be nice to take copper and tin and make bronze for instance. And look just because you haven't imagined them doesn't mean we can't. Maybe nether ore armor makes "some" nether mobs ignore you the way pigzombies do. Maybe it works if you have a full set. Maybe a mix of ores makes interesting combinations so you have to decide between the right mix of durability and protection.
You half make my arguement for me. You seem to be arguing that there is little difference between the tools we have now. Yes what you say is true if strength is the only factor. Making them "merely" stronger or weaker is setting the bar too low. Use your imagination. This is Minecraft. Many things are possible. Perhaps a different ore/crystal allows you to see previous ores through only a few blocks of solid stone (say 2-3 not x-ray which is lame IMO). Perhaps another helps brewing new potions or changes an enchantment. Anything is possible if only we don't limit ourselves.
Ask yourself this. Why would they make the visible block limit go from 256 to 4096 if they have no intention of introducing new blocks. If they are going to introduce new blocks why would they introduce no ores at all to "MINE"craft as part of that?
This is a strawman argument. At no point do I want or have ever said more of the same would be desired. More and different ores with different properties would be great. And, I have tried those mods and like pistons they added to the game and make mining worthwhile and interesting and not something to be ignored after hitting enough diamond to make a few blocks.
Let's not talk past each other. I love Minecraft. I really like the 6 ores we have now. I think what we have now is good and I love the changes I see coming. I am merely making a suggestion to an aspect of the game that hasn't gotten a lot of love in a good while and is in the name of the product itself.
It's there (shadow and particle effects) but the mobs itself is invisible.
EARLY IRON!
Also in the blacksmith i heard theres now a chest with armour in it!
But Overall i am quite pleased with the snapshot, though i am just waiting for 1.2 to come out so i can update my server so it has ocelots and jungles! then the real work starts on building towns and placing NPC's and writing quests. Ohh the JOYS!!!
The alternative to weekly snapshots would simply be getting nothing at all. There is no reason at all to even expect an update to the game of any kind at all, and it is due to the generosity of Mojang and tradition that they are even letting us see the progress of the game. In fact, if this was more like a real gaming company that didn't care about its customers, they would even be charging money for game updates.
Seriously, quick bitching about stuff like this. Not only does it show immaturity, it also shows a lack of understanding of the software development process. The next update will be ready when it is ready, and frankly I'm impressed that a real release schedule is happening with snapshots to find the bugs where the "official version" is actually stable. In the past (before version 1.0 "gold edition") any time there was a "x.0" release it was usually so buggy that the game was unusable.
I very much like this snapshot approach to software development as the developers are striving for a bug-free release rather than something so buggy that responsible players are refusing to update the game. I really don't want to go back to the days when an update was a crap shoot in terms of if somebody was going to be broken or not.
- be able to be ordered to stay on a spot. (like dogs and cats do)
- attack hostile mobs if they come in range of sight( like they do in villages)
- follow you (like dogs/cats do)...give it a flower !!
- patrole/walk around in area not following you( like in towns)
- attack on command !!!!
Enter: Minecraft(ed) Wars
Wat do you think?????
Those chests have existed since 1.1, and I wouldn't recommend hitting an iron golem because they can kill you in 1 hit.
I have a screenshot but its saved locally; i doesn't have a URL so I don't know how to upload it.
you do realize we can't see inside your computer right?
Me too.
First thing I thought. Love that movie. Love that movie.
