Minecon, Minecraft Updates & More
Are you a fan of how terrain used to be generated, with massive mountain ranges, hills and more height variety? Jeb is hard at work on land generation, with the intent of having land generation be more varied in a future release. Not as much a fan of massive, hilly landscapes - or would you at least like an option for flat plains, for easier building? Not to worry, he is working on adding that as an option as well, which you can use at will. Whether you're a fan of rolling mountains or rolling plains, the power to exercise some control over land generation is not far off.
Minecon, from Mojang's Perspective
We attended Minecon alongside thousands of players and their families, and it was certainly an event to remember. We had a chance to show you the convention from our perspective, and now Mojang would like to show you theirs - with their own photo album! They took pics of everything from the setting up of the con, numerous shots of attendees who met with them, booths they went by, and so much more. It's a fascinating look into the convention from the hosters' perspective, and one not to be missed.
If you look really hard, you can even see your favorite content writer.
Additionally, Mojang is looking for your feedback on Minecon! What did you think of the convention? Where would you like to see the next Minecon hosted? You can let them know right here!

I hope these new changes don't totally change the seed like we saw between 1.7 -> 1.8 -> 1.9PR -> 1.0.
While the changes we used to see from the introduction of survival to 1.7.2 were fine, you can't expect us admins to keep up with all these full-on biome/seed changes. This is getting stupid.
If these new changes only change/tweak the existing terrain, fine. If they *totally* change seeds again like we saw between 1.7 -> 1.8 and even 1.8 -> 1.9PR where nothing major changed but the whole map was different, I will be furious.
You. Need. To. Stop. F**king. With. The. Terrain. PLEASE Add more terrain options, but stop screwing with the defaults. I have no problem with adding some flowers, or minor tweaks, like tall grass and pumpkins. But us server admins seriously need some stability.
Add all the other generators you want (IE Flatmap) but PLEASE finalize the default generator and STOP touching it.. or at the very least, leave the old generators intact so we don't have funky borders on old seeds.
THIS! THIS RIGHT HERE JEB! READ THIS!
Yeah. It seems like every two months servers have to reset or adjust to the new terrain generation features nowadays. When people on our server hear of another terrain generation addition, that just means time to reset the server again! Its.... really annoying. Please, jeb, we should feel secure in our saved data when we buy a game advertised as a full game... @_@
Cant wait for the next release.
Totally flat land! Yes!
If Jeb brings beaches back, he should have them generate properly, what we had before were not beaches they were just huge sandy patches adjoining soil-covered stone and didn't fit properly together.
In 1.3 beaches were even more primitive than they are now, they simply covered vast strips of coastline and were pretty good for going sand mining on, however, one never needed to go past the coastline and actually hunt up the sand patches, I think the current terrain generation is a bit better, if you want a large quantity of sand you really have to go find a desert or figure out how to mine underneath the oceans. A beach now on the 1.0.0 client is mostly underwater, like most real beaches, the sand extends for a fair way underneath the water line and is a lot better than what we had before.
Cheers ...

The game is still in development dumbass. If you don't like major game changes, stop playing until the full release happens, then it will mostly be minor tweaks and additions.
Then I Saw The Word Generation And Got Saaaaad.
But Yeah Jebs Making Progress
