A code freeze for Minecraft is now in effect! In software jargon, a code freeze is essentially a tight set of restrictions placed on what can be added to game code, with a focus on polishing, bug-fixing and streamlining the game instead of adding more features. This assures that Minecraft will be released as a smooth, mostly (or entirely!) bug-free game.
Minecraft has gone through some amazing changes since its humble beginnings, adding tons of features and content. What have been some of your favorite additions to the game?
I think my favorite update so far has been 1.8 where they added food stacking+meter, experience and other cool neat stuff with the lighting engine and ravines.
I hope after release they add the new sound effects to mobs and walking on certain blocks. And on top of that, some actual ambient sounds, like wind at high places or during snow storms, quieter rain, birds and birds chirping, something to fill in the blankness the world has sound-wise (with music off especially.)
Minecraft went through many ups.....downs but more ups
I loved 1.5 with weather and better preformence... sadly that no longer apply thanks to 1.8
But beds and wolves was great
The biomes was the best... though iwish heouldve mad more biomes
And though i was looking forword to sky dimention but i guess the end is ok
but MINECRAFT is and always EPIC
and guys there not ganna be a 1.9 everything else is ganna be in official release (aka Minecraft 1.0 or just minecraft)
wait... does this mean there is no more modding? because if so, that SUCKS! I'll keep 1.8 if that's true, the community's modding is one of the best parts of the game, and without Optifine I'd have problems running it to begin with.

I would really LOVE to know how did you manage to get that to that conclusion, 'cause I'm trying and trying, and there's no way for me to figure it out :/
A code freeze - It's odd to think that this could be the end of all the fun, with the updates and the odd exploitable glitches . . . and the stuff that I swore at, at the time, but now fondly remember. Could it really be?
Favourite thing? Too hard to list them all. It's a great game. . . bugs and all. Thanks Notch and Team Mojang. . . and Happy Belated Birthday too.

No one is getting 1.9 ever! At Minecon he's releasing Minecraft 1.0 (without the Alpha or Beta label, the first full release), and 'at Minecon it's being released' does NOT mean 'got to Minecon to get it', all it means is 'he's pulling the metaphorical switch that releases the code into the wild while he's at Minecon'.
Also (moved from the post below, apologies for doubleposting):
quote from one other poster, and a quote from the OP, referring to the definition of a 'code freeze' and the misguided idea that it means 'no more modding' - snipped
The code freeze is more 'they're limiting themselves by choice' than 'they're changing the code in such a way that it can't be altered no matter what'.
EDIT: And by 'limiting themselves by choice' I mean 'deciding that, no matter what awesome idea they come up with, they won't change any code other than to fix bugs and polish existing features'.
Also, everyone worried about not getting updates in the future because you bought Beta, this is from the wiki:
I keep hearing different things: On one thing beta buyers got the game as is as a discount(plus the full release) and the other saying you'll still have to buy the full game at release(after minecon) so to me I hope it's the former cause I'll be very upset if I have to spend an additional 15 dollars for the full 1.0 update. :sad.gif:
So this would be the final Minecraft update? Like no more updates after this one, it'll be complete? Also is the code freeze the reason I can't get on Minecraft, because when I try to get on Minecraft it won't work.
Another thing I want to ask. The update will be released at the same time Minecon begins right? Does that mean the code freeze will remain active intil Minecon? Just asking.
Anyone knows, that boats not rising to the surface from underwater is a bug? If it is, will that be fixed?
I can live with that. He needs to fix the water glitch where entities can't hop out of the water from certain directions in certain situations. If I recall correctly, it's westward breaks under situations like hopping up onto a block with water on it or onto a transparent block such as glass.

Nothing in the game works! -deletes everything from Minecraft.jar- I can't even get it to start! Don't release yet!
