1.9 Updates: New Character Screen!
Jeb tweeted a new image recently, indicating some significant changes to the inventory - stats, possible bottles for potions and more! An earlier tweet seemed to support the potion theory, with a mention of a possible blindness potion. He seemed to indicate that the inventory/stat changes would not take effect in 1.9, however.
Already, we have seen a large shift in the way Survival Mode plays, with the inclusion of NPC villages, more expansive dungeons (including strongholds, and nether forts), a large number of new creatures and more. What will be added next? Keep an eye out for more updates!
I thought the admin would know that it sorta gets me mad that he's showing something that WON'T be in the game.
In fact, I'm pretty sure it was. I've been a player since almost a year now, and I remember Notch mentioning about how he'd eventually like to get the game more 'adventure-y' as far back as I can remember.
In fact, take a look at Notch's tweet from over a year ago -- http://notch.tumblr.com/post/779956568/the-rationale-for-redstone -- it very explicitly talks about three 'modes,' Adventure being one of them. A lot of the recent work has been towards the framework for the Adventure mode, now that they've got Survival Mode down pretty well, which in turn was developed once they got the Creative mode down pretty well. Some things have changed and been modified over the last year, but it's still pretty much progressing along those lines. Everything is a progression; people seem to forget that that's how games that are in development work.
Stats typically don't have cool downs below them. You don't level up to level 2 and get to stay level two for 3 minutes.
He's showing off the bottles and talking about brewing potions, you drink a potion, you get increased strength. That goes on the left to show that you have the strength buff and how long it lasts. The reason it says Strength II is because that's a second level strength potion, or maybe he just drank two potions and stacked them.
What that picture is showing is after drinking a bunch of different potions, he has all the buffs active on the left, each with their own cool down determined by how long potions last and when they were consumed.
The game is still a sandbox game. A sandbox game allows you to go anywhere, and pretty much do anything. Yes there is a lot of items without a purpose, but items are getting purposes as the game gets closer to being finished. The RPG elements are just extra onto the game. They didn't take out the ability to build and to change the world and make it the way you want it.
As for everyone saying that people should not be doing "bitching" posts about the RPG elements, its their opinions. Unfortunately some posts seem more like "bitching", rather than being constructive to as why they don't like the RPG elements.
I personally like the addition of the RPG elements because they are extras onto the game. I don't like that a lot of things don't have a use yet. The overall feeling of the game still feels as it did back in 1.0 Alpha Minecraft.
