We would like to show our appreciation to Intel for their generosity in providing the solid-state drives, and Logitech for their copious contribution of headsets. Thanks, guys!
You mean snail mail, not email.
Also, there ARE "ads" on MCforum, usually in the form of subtle advert strips that cover the background on the sides.

Giving away trips to conventions etc was my brainchild and I put a lot of work into getting it set up.
While we want to offer this to everyone (really we honestly do) we simply cannot due to the consumer protection laws, tax laws, and random regulatory fees in all the various countries. Curse is a US company and I had to spend months cutting through red tape just to get it approved in the US, and some US states still won't allow us to offer it to their residents.
If we were to offer it to even one non-US country all that red tape would have to be repeated, weird tax fees would arise, and a handful of European countries would require us to pay tons of extra taxes and regulatory fees to offer a contest to their residents. Additionally, some countries just outright make it impossible to run contests.
Essentially we were presented with three choices, make the contest US only, don't offer the contest at all, or run the contest for everyone and get the pants sued off of us. I really wanted to be able to do contests AND keep my job so I had no choice but to choose option A.
I hope our international audience can forgive us but this is something we just can't bring to you guys. We still feel that our continually evolving premium membership is a great deal and part of your subscription goes to support addon/mod authors in the community, so we hope it will contribute to the growth of Minecraft in its own small way. If you have any other suggestion on how we can improve it let us know.
Cheers!
So thanks sweepstakes, not only were my chances very slim, but now I can't enter at all.
And I wanted a Solid State Drive -__- Hell i would have even loved a T shirt.....

* Accounts may be cancelled 24 hours after purchase in order to allow synchronization time with the accounting system.
I think that's slightly misleading.. I think you mean to say that unpaid invoices may be cancelled, not accounts.. "Congratulations, you bought premium. Now you account is closed so that our accounting lines up."
Also, how long does "Processing" take, because I already paid and it's still Processing?
I love that they are giving this away for free, but 18 days isn't enough to plan ahead.
Because they must provide an alternative way to enter the contest without purchase. If you look at all those contests that stores and candy bars run they allow you to write in an entry through the mail instead of purchasing their product.
Charging someone for a chance to win a prize that has monetary value is gambling.
HOWEVER. If you go to Curse's website and look at the rules to the contest you'll see this:
(ii) Mail-in Entries. If you are a non-Premium member of the Site, to enter for free by U.S. mail, send your full name, address, daytime phone number, date of birth, and Curse.com account name to: Curse, Inc., Win A Trip To MineCon 2011, 351 California Street, Suite 1450, San Francisco, CA 94104. The entry must be postmarked no later than the last day of the Sweepstakes Period, and received by Sponsor within five (5) business days following the end of the Sweepstakes Period. Sponsor assumes no responsibility for lost, late, damaged, misdirected, illegible, incomplete or postage-due mail or entries. No photocopied, digitally created, or mechanically reproduced additional entries allowed. b. Limit: One entry per person. Any attempt to exceed this limit (either online or by mail) may result in disqualification. All entries become the sole property of Sponsor, and receipt of entries will not be acknowledge or returned.
So they are not running an illegal contest.
HOWEVER, they are obviously not going to include the people who enter free. Just this line: "and receipt of entries will not be acknowledge or returned." states that. Couple that with "Sponsor assumes no responsibility for lost, late, damaged, misdirected, illegible, incomplete or postage-due mail or entries".
No way I'm going to support a company like that with my money.
