1.X Updates: Nether Brick?

Jeb recently uploaded an image of the Nether, with a very interesting addition to the usual block landscape - what appears to be netherrack brick! With 1.8 having brought a sizable number of new block types, the possibility of expanding the Nether even more is exciting indeed. Will the new brick be craftable? Will it be found in pre-existing structures, built by mysterious NPCs? Will it be neither of these things, yet something more exciting still? Keep an eye out!

It's hard to notice it at first, but look closely in the center of the picture.

Looks interesting, I hope it's a per-existing structure with possible treasure inside. And hostile enemies. While the introduction of the Nether has always confused me, this is a nice addition.

1.9 will be the Halloween Update for this year I reckon, but will it live up to the hype of last year's?

It seems the people who built these in the Nether were a bit more advanced at building then those in the Overworld, considering how tall that bridge is.

@XShredderX dude, they are just STARTING on working on 1.9
Im expecting something to make minecraft absolutely BEAST with everythang they added onto in 1.8 and even more awesome sauce that they will ad in 1.9.
For balancing reasons, i hope they make something to heal you instantly, or a two different modes of survival, normal and HARDCORE (normal being with pre 1.8 health system, the combat and other stuff can stay :3)

I hope to see some interesting background going to the Nether. Such as pigmen being the damned, forced to wander around the Nether, aimlessly building structures. I want a really eery, mysterious, and almost hopeless atmosphere in the Nether. Such as the atmosphere in The Divine Comedy.
