Jeb has released updates for the playable 1.8 beta, and they are now available! Included are a massive number of bug fixes, tweaks and modifications - get your updates below!
It works on 10.5.8... (I have it) It has to do with your graphics card. If it doesn't support Opengl 1.3, as it stands regardless of whether or not you have Opengl on it can't run 1.8. My friend is going through the same problem.
@OGClasSick Are you using a texture pack? If so it is most likely outdated, thus making the new items invisible. Also you don't have a food bar in creative mode.
Thanks Traybair. Ill look into that to see if there is something i can do. pretty sure my macbook has a really crappy graphics card so perhaps i will never play 1.8? that would suck.
just rename the file bro.
looks like my graphics card (GMA X3100) doesnt support opengl past version 1.2 unless you have upgraded to snow leopard in which case it adds support for opengl 1.4 from what i just read. hope this helps out some other confused people. i am going to upgrade to snow leopard now me thinks unless there is an app i can get for more opengl support.
Alright I finally figured out my problem. At first it was saving as a .zip whenever I tried to download it so instead when it pops up the window to where you want to save the file, change the file to all files and then name the file to Minecraft.jar and save it that way. It'll turn it to a .jar. Then I replaced that with my old .jar and now Minecraft works fine. Before when someone suggested to just copy all the contents of the .zip into the .jar it would just freeze on the downloading screen. Hope this helps someone.
Helps Immeasurably. The OP should include a note about that bug in the download process (not Jeb's fault)
Didn't read the 16 pages of thread, but if nobody said it:
Doing multiple pre-releases was brilliant.
It gives those who wanted 1.8 early what they wanted, and while also delivering a stable, reliable, mostly bug-free full release when it finally comes out.

> Didn't fix texture bugs if you change the texture of silverfish, Endermen, or spiders
> Didn't fix the only two bugs that affected me

Good job.
