Yeah I agree! I've got a marshland right where my spawn point is on my new SP game and that itself is very near to a rolling hills plains Biome with tooooons of grass and stuff. What I don't comprehend is that there seems to be an increased rate of mob spawns or something because if I leave my little house at night I get swarmed by like waves of enemies!

why is is say done loading and freeeze???

Bugs(it might just be for mac):
1)you can't use bonemeal on melon seeds
2)Random crash when i tried to put stacked raw meat into a furnace
3)Sugar cane spawns on sand too
4) i dunno if this was a bug but it doesnt show haow many bars of skill you have completed
Ideas:i think there should be a way to find the fortresses for example an you can do a quest 4 an npc and hell give you a fortress compass or a fortress map or he could guide you there this might be asking for too much but there should be a better material than diamond
P.S. there should be something secret in the update for us to find out

Do the people at mojang know that people are having trouble?

Not sure here. What I did was start with the original launcher and forced an update (to 1.7.3, aka clean install, no mods). Then replaced the minecraft.jar of 1.7.3 with that of 1.8 pre release jar. Then used the "test" launcher. The newer launcher is not a windows executable, its a java applet trying to run the new launcher which is a java applet itself. If it does not run, it most likely a java issue.

okay for all people: To properly install the new Minecraft do this (windows only) go to your search bar type in "run" when in run type in "%appdata%" open the ".minecraft" folder once in it go to "bin" inside of bin is a .jar file called "minecraft" simply drag the new file you just downloaded and click copy and replace when it asks you. The End. p.s. don't type the " when actually doing it.

has anyone found an npc village? btw how do i fly?
