A short while ago, Notch talked about some of the exciting behavioral changes in animals for 1.8 - most notably, how they will now flee when attacked, rather than stand there and stare at you. This ended up having the added effect of wolf attacks looking more "natural", in a sense, as prey would now flee its attacker, rather than look around blankly and grunt. He went on to say that - due in part to the behavioral changes, and a desire to see more dynamic mob-to-mob interactions - he is beginning a super-secret weekend project! What does it entail?
Here's a little something: Now animals will probably run away when damaged by something like spikes! Doesn't it seem like those 4 lines of code have made the AI about, 4 times smarter? :cool.gif:
Great now release date is longer! Well, whatever, as long as its not crappy like 1.7 update was.
Pistons are only as bad as your creativity and lack thereof permits it. Make no mistake, I'm not insulting your lack of creativity, but there's lots of fun things you can do with pistons if you experiment.
I'll give you a couple examples: A new cobblestone generator, hidden door, and hidden stairs. Imagine being able to hide house from griefers by completely hiding your house.
Animals running away makes sense to me. I wonder how this will affect traps? Some rework might be required if animals try to run away from those lava blades. Hope they aren't strong enough to push back through water flow. :wink.gif:

Take into consideration that lava trick is a glitch, and glitches will eventually be patched. All Notch needs to do is have lava touch the ladder/entity and cause object to be destroyed.
I recommend using pure gravity to kill mobs, no glitches are exploited, instant death is caused, and no risk of items being destroyed.

It's not the 9th yet, silly writer! ;]
.... you're from the future.
