Jeb recently mentioned that 1.8 will most likely not be released on September 8th, to allow time for more thorough testing and quality assurance. Still, there seems to be a careful optimism regarding the release date - while it may not be on the 8th, it will still likely be in the near future.
On a more positive note, the PNG file containing the new food and "experience" effects was released, take a look!
it's my b'day today and i was expecting the update to come out tomorrow. so a late b'day prezzy from notch. Ohh well, im looking forward to the 1.8 Update!
This kind of what happens when you mention a (tentative) release date. Even if you said it's just a guess, some people would go ahead and wait for the date as if it WILL be the time of release. And the greater the expectation, the bigger the disappointment.
Personally, though, this is no big deal to me. As someone who's familiar with public betas, though, I see little difference between releasing it early and releasing it late. While it would save you the feedbacks about the huge number of bugs in the form of complaints, you'll still instead deal just as much with the complaints of people needing to wait for too long.
While in Beta you play it with bugs and send in reports on what's wrong and what isn't. If the bugs are fixed before we send in reports how will they get additional information?
Bugs can also be fun to play with :biggrin.gif: (I miss boatevators)

Although, imo, it's very good to delay it for bug fixes, it's sad that we still have to wait even longer lol.
Yeah, that'll make the updates come faster..
