This is looking like it's more and more to do with the much anticipated "Adventure Update" moniker that Patch 1.8 has been dubbed with.

Because your old character dies and you respawn as someone else?
You are a different person each time you die, hence the level purge.
In other words, your old char permanently died, not the world. It makes sense since if some random person died in real world, obviously the whole world won't die with him.

Luckily permadeath and hunger are only in hardcore. :wink.gif:
And the leveling is in the "Adventure mode" which is supposedly one of the three modes you can choose. (?) The others are survival and creative. (I think.)

Suddenly you need to store your loot much more vigorously. You turn into a dwarf more or less, hoarding everything you deem remotely useful into huge storage chests. Only carrying the bare minimum when adventuring / exploring caves, and become extremely adept to combat.
This is a much-needed feature that could bring new life into the game, for those interested of course. For others, just toggle it 'off' and get on with your lives.

Lvls: Very fast leveling Read the PCgamer thing. (Probally for tools, but since super fast by the time you lose your wooden pick, you can use stone.)
PermaDeath: You lose items and ExP thats all.
Food: Preety sure its toggable, though I'de personally like this, gives it a survival feeling.
I personally think MC is to easy at times, I kinda like thse ideas.
Hunger, yes. Leveling, hmm... We will have to see more on this because i'm not exactly sure how this would work. What would levels do, and how would you acheive a new level?
Permadeath, seems to be a thing where some people agree with and disagree. Permadeath should be in adventure mode, but there SHOULD be a creative mode where you just mine stuff, create.. oh yeah.. peaceful...
I'm expecting a menu with two, possibly three game modes when creating a new file. At first, it seemed like Adventure was going to be just an add on to the game itself, as in no two game modes, just one changed game.
Now, It seems more reasonable that it will be an entirely different game mode.
Were going to have to wait and see how this works.
Perma-death? SMP only? I die alot to things I cannot control(I.E. )
I think it needs to be toggleable.
