“I’m a big roguelike fan,” explains Notch. “It’s really fun. The idea is that you level up really, really fast. You can grind away and level up fast if you want to, or you can just play as normal and level up that way. The longer you play, the bigger the risk of dying becomes. It’s the part that really works. If it feels like it’s too harsh, we might make it half or something like that. But the fact that you lose everything – you lose all your inventory anyways.”
This is looking like it's more and more to do with the much anticipated "Adventure Update" moniker that Patch 1.8 has been dubbed with.
If so, I think that's pretty cool. That adds a good element of challenge (and highscore) to the game which will get rid of that annoying monotonous borefest that occurs in singleplayer once you've got full diamond everything.
This, a thousand times this.
As for the toggle, no. I don't want the options menu to turn into this:
leveling-not enough known to formulate an opinion, hope its good!
hunger-finally a way to force people out of there 2x1 holes and breathe fresh air!
(all the other stuff he has shown on blogs and twitter)-It shall be amazing.
enderoflife - You should check you shift button, it seems to be stuck.
X trox - Stop calling people names, it will in fact NOT make people listen to you, no matter what your mom says.
JonnyMiner - Insinuating that all poeple that have ADHD are fags just makes you look more stupid, don't do that to yourself.
Now my opinion on these ideas:
XP bar - If done well, could add a fun aspect to the game, could however be easily ruined if it turns out to be a grind fest.
Hunger bar - Not overly happy with this idea, but it will however bring a new scope to the survival part of the game. Food needs to be stackable then imo.
Permadeath - Hated the idea at first, but now... I'm getting kinda excited over it... Unless the XP thing is a grind :/
Maybe Notch shouldn't have called it permadeath since that insinuates that the save will be lost...
In Star Wars Galaxies the first Jedi had permadeath on their 3rd death. This was made more bitter by the fact that noone knew how to unlock the Jedi...
Notch never said permadeath. he only said lose XP and items when you die to give people an incentive to live
Those were the days.... :smile.gif:
In that case, those who named it permadeath should get smacked with a trout.
And I'm gonna have to learn to stay back and not die all the time... :tongue.gif:
BRING IT ON NOTCH! I WANT A GODDAMN CHALLENGE!
Minecraft is finally going to be a real game and more fun :smile.gif:
