1.8 Updates: Taller Worlds, Delicious Foods
Jeb posted another teaser image, this one of a cooked chicken. While nothing was specified about it, there also appears to be a new mystery bar beneath the health track - what could it be?
Additionally - Notch appears to have been experimenting with map-height changes. He went on to say that while nothing definitive is planned, they are looking into possible map height restrictions in the future.
Finally - a new launcher is being tested! You can help test it here. Bear in mind, it is only launching Minecraft for the moment, but the stress-testing of the launcher will provide helpful data for Mojang, to further improve it!
Stay tuned for further updates as they develop.
And if that is indeed a new stamina bar...where is the armor?
I'm currently torn on the whole "Hunger/Fatigue" system. Its reminding me more and more of hardcore D&D.
With the talk of the different creative/survivor modes (at least mentioned when in MP) these bars may not even show or apply in creative. Perhaps we can switch out of these modes in SP like was can with "Peaceful" and "Normal"?
Verdite ore. not sure what its for yet. chopping down trees is like terraria now, and added mystery blocks, popping out a random ore.
edit 1 : baby cows.
edit 2 : vines, and breaking them gives you a chance to get a strand of vine, also drop sticks and seeds.
edit 3 : added flax, dropping flax seed and flax fiber.
edit 4 : baby sheep?
edit 5 : Random mossy cobblestone leading you to a chest sort of thing? Breaking it pops out a bunch of items.
glad you agree with me :biggrin.gif:
It's not a "Sprint Bar", that much should be obvious to anyone that thinks about it. For one, it takes up way to much space visually to be so. Sprinting is not more important than player health, or hunger, or Armor.
It's not a hunger bar, as that is shown through the drumsticks. You could maybe argue that the drumsticks show the amount of food left in your inventory, but thats fairly stupid to be honest, as you can carry food in your belt bar.
I HIGHLY doubt, but will not rule out, that its an Armor Bar. Again, reason #1 for this is visual weight. That information does not need to take up more space than the hunger or health bars. To be honest, my feeling is that the reason the Armor indicator is no longer in that screenshot is that it was fairly worthless anyways. Now armor status will probably be solely regulated to the menu's. Think of other games with degrading armor, you dont see that stat constantly, you see it in a menu (Morrowind, Demon's Souls, etc).
Because we already know of the "Experience Orb's" I think its safe to say that, like the majority of users, this bar represents an experience level (which I for one am looking forward to). If you have a level up system in a game, it makes a lot of sense to put that front and center to your UI even if it might take a long time to level up. This is because the player likes to be able to instantly see the rewards of an action.
Now to the hunger bar. I think there are a lot of people that are freaking out about that bar thinking that it means the game is going to be considerably harder because of it and that you can potentially die of starvation.
If you die of starvation, it's only going to be because you were on the highest difficulty setting. On peaceful I doubt it has any affect. On Normal though? Starvation will decrease the effectiveness of the player. You wont be able to die from starvation, rather, mining, attacking, chopping wood, or anything else really, will either take longer or its effect will be diminished. Another possibility would be that you gain less EXP while starving.
On top of this, I'd be willing to guess that being "Well-fed" would infer some kind of bonus, perhaps your actions are more effective, or you obtain more EXP when well fed.
Proof?
I am making a guess that it is the rumored experience bar, as it looks like every other experience bar ever put in to a game with the segments.
It could also be sprint bar but it is far too segmented, it also appears to be empty. This could be because whoever made the screen shot may have did so after sprinting. but there would be at least a pixel of recovered stamina.
As for the missing Armor bar I'm going to make a wager that they moved it to show above the health. This us just a guess based on what would make the most sense though.
One question that no one has yet answered straightforwardly: Why do we need EXP and leveling? To mine more things or mine faster? Get a diamond pickaxe. To fight monsters and not die easily? Their AI sucks miserably, killing them is as simple as having most of them run up to you and you bounce them back with an attack, or shoot them with arrows. Survival against bosses? Most likely has same AI as monsters, will be easy to take down. Needed for crafting or mine higher tier blocks? That would **** off a lot of new players.
I don't think EXP should be anything that makes you have to grind it to be able to do things, it'd be like another Runescape or WoW or any other RPG of its type.
