Notch recently revealed more information regarding the 1.8 Adventure Update. The following things have been confirmed for the update's release:
- NPC Villages
- Randomly generated dungeons
- New biome code
- Fully functioning Creative mode (with Creative-type access to server mods/admins)
- Critical hits
- Sprinting
- More farming options
- Brightness slider
He also mentioned that mod support was definitely being worked on, but that information on the update as a whole would be kept under a tight lid, to avoid revealing too many surprises.
We will continue to update the community as information becomes available.
Considering there's buildings needing to be made, I'm sure they would only spawn in unexplored chunks.
Most likely spawned randomly, that would mean they'd need unexplored chunks.
I'm in the same boat with you man, having NPC's walking around might get in the way and cause some issues. I loved the fact that there is no one else (other than herobrine) in-game other than fellow players. Plus having NPC's will get in the way for like base's/tower's/etc. On the other hand, this'll be fairly interesting to see how this works....

1s, 2s, 3s, 4s, 5s, 6s...
-Certain aggressive mobs would gain a small speed increase so that you have to sprint to get away from them
-Sprinting would not be as effective when traversing certain block types (sand, ice, water, etc...)
-Sprinting into a certain types of block would cause damage
It really doesn't sound anything like Adventurecraft. Adventurecraft lets you create standalone adventures to play, without the ability to destroy blocks. This is just adding more gameplay to vanilla Minecraft.
And those people obviously though those ideas up on their own...
Probably about the same as a zombie, run into you until one of you dies.
