UPDATE: Notch confirms separate team is working on the Minecraft for XBOX Live Arcade. More details to follow later.
The game, based on the images shown at the press conference, retains its classic graphics style. One huge reveal for the console port, however, is that it's coming complete with Kinect functionality.
This looks to be a big week for Minecraft, as the mobile version will be demoed on the Xperia Play during the E3 Expo as well.
If you'd like to hear it yourself, it's around the 1:30 mark.
Be sure to follow Curse's E3 coverage this week!
I'm a PC guy all day every day. My last console was a Super Nintendo, because I don't personally feel the need to buy a box every six years that duplicates the functionality of an all-purpose box I'm already building every four. Yes, console has become the bane of the PC gamer's existence over that last half-decade due to its negative influence on PC games, but Minecraft coming to Xbox isn't going to ruin Minecraft. PC games being ported to console is a good thing. It bucks the trend of developers making mush to better slide down the throats of console gamers with low expectations, and then delivering that same console mush to PC. The ongoing matter-of-course PC vs. console (vs. Wii) war of fanboys is getting tired. There's not much innovation going on in your mind if you find these kinds of black-and-white debates interesting. People choose different things, end of story.
I also highly doubt dedicated console players are going to have much of a presence on this forum. People who stick to consoles usually do so because they're after a simple, streamlined gaming experience. The way console has shaped games in the last several years is a pretty clear indication of that. Modding, servers, etc.--I don't think much of that will apply to them.
Mojang deserves every amount of success that comes its way. Keep in mind that Notch is a big fan of indie games. A console port being developed by a separate team is not going to change his sensibility.
Everyone loves Minecraft, and everyone should be able to play it. Let's not **** on something just because we like to think of ourselves as special little indie turds who like to keep everything pure and for ourselves.
The fear of this happening is completely irrational and unfounded - most updates for Minecraft are extremely small (usually less than 10mb if I'm not mistaken), small enough to be considered a patch. X360 does those completely free of charge. And once again, if you don't like it... well, stick to the PC version and you'll be none the wiser.
Minecraft in general will be dead before that happens. Don't expect that to happen for quite a long time.
this is what happened to PC games that get good support from the PC community they end up mutiplatform and consolized with compromises. get ready for them to focusing on the console standard by ruining, streamlining and simplifying everything just like so many other great PC focused game that went multiplayform.
it was a lot of fun, and I'm glad it gave me joy like few other games have this gen but i guess it was too good to be last.
Actually, games like Monster Rancher, Viva Pinata and Animal Crossing all existed on consoles way before Minecraft was ever a thought in Notch's head. All those games are resource gathering, building games. So thats not only what console gamers care about.
Independently developed games like Limbo and Braid sold millions on the 360 as well.
It said it's coming to XBLA. That's not a game disc. And if you want to acquire it for the XBox you're going to have to buy it again. Full price. I'm thinking 1400 points. Maybe 1200. Something equatable to $20 anyway, seeing as this is coming out after the release date of Minecraft.
Thanks now I don't have to worry much because i thought it was going to be a beast to buy. cause I'm getting Halo aniversery and MW3 this winter and ME3 this fall. so this will be generous on my wallet.
lol
If idiocy like this is typical of your precious community, "console guys" are ****ing nuclear physicists and pillars of the community compared to you.
Seriously, the lot of you need to take a look in the mirror before you start making these childish generalizations.
Why don't you people ****ing read? I'm starting to think you lack the capability to do so.
READ THIS.

All this time, we wanted Minecraft to be a PC EXCLUSIVE, because at this point NOTHING else is anymore. We just wanted to ****ing say that this is something that was OURS and no one else's. But no. I was fine with the pocket edition because Android is Linux and they've already gotten to
With 1.6, you've nearly BROKEN THE ****ING GAME, only to screw us over by NOT fixing it because you're too busy making it for Xbox and swimming in the gigantic mountain of cash you have. It took you this long to actually make the game playable because of what you've done.
Now, we're going to have a billion Xbox fanboys flood the ****ing forum, butchering the English language, degrading everyone's IQ, and telling us that the PC sucks.
I did not want any of this **** to happen, and NEITHER DID ANY OF THE ****ING PEOPLE WHO PAYED YOU SO MUCH MONEY AND GAVE YOU SO MUCH FAME IN THE FIRST PLACE. You've really done it this time, you ****ing asshole! You've betrayed all of us! Go **** yourself.
Diablo, Every MMO, Starcraft, Half Life, Terraria, Civilization, Portal, and not to mention that most games for PC have the ability to be modded, like the Elder Scrolls series.
No. Actually, he fixed the bugs within days after 1.6 came out. Also, nobody in the Mojang team is making the port. Microsoft is. Sorry if bad things happen when only ten people make a game. It's actually -very- impressive that they fixed the game in such little time. With ten people.
No. We're not. It's very unreasonable and stupid to think this. But, by reading your post, I can tell this is the norm for you. You have no evidence that this is going to happen, and it makes more sense that people won't.
If Xbox users are really as stupid as you think (and they're not, I'm one and I'm smarter than you) then there's only a snowball's chance in hell they'll ever make it to these forums.
Your only valid point.
Wrong, I helped him get rich and I'm completely for this movement. In fact, most people are, if you could get your miniscule head around to actually reading other posts. But no, that would prove you wrong, so instead you make up facts and assume that other people are as lazy as you and not read other posts.
Yes. Yes. Yes.
All obvious.
1. Microsoft payed him to make it exclusive.
2. It's port. Microsoft isn't taking over Mojang. Mojang still owns Minecraft. When Mojang adds updates to Minecraft, Microsoft copies and pastes the code over to the Xbox version.
3. Obviously. The game is scheduled to be finished 11/11/11. That's Fall. According to the title of this thread, and everything related to this topic, It's going to Xbox in Winter. Fall is before Winter.
Maybe he noticed what an entitled bunch of brats his core "fan base" is.
Which parts aren't obvious?
