Please note: this change is now in effect, you must merge your Minecraft Forum account with a Twitch account. If you need any support with this please get in touch here.
Last year Curse and the Minecraft Forum joined the Twitch family and subsequently, we have provided users with the ability to merge their Minecraft Forum account with a new or existing Twitch account. With Twitch account merging, we’re able to provide more streamlined account security, faster user support, and an easier log-in process. Now, we’d like to extend these benefits to all Minecraft Forum users.
Merging your account into a Twitch account takes less than a minute, and your Minecraft Forum nickname will remain the same. Your posts, subscriptions, messages and servers will be unchanged. After merging accounts, you’ll simply log in to the forum using your Twitch credentials.
Starting on the 23rd of October, all users will need to merge their Minecraft Forum account with a new or existing Twitch account. If you’d like to merge your account before October 23rd, you can do so via My Account then click Merge Accounts. If your account is not merged on October 23rd you will be unable to log in to the Minecraft Forum until you do so, however, your account will not be deleted.
Have any questions? Feel free to send me a Private Message, ask in the comments below or submit a support ticket. For a more in-depth overview of the merge process please visit the Twitch Merge FAQ.
IMHO, this "feature" is not going to help anyone based on the mostly negative feedback on this post. How are these related? Is it worth making a Twitch account to post on this forum when there are other forums?
It's not my decision but I seriously think you need to think a little more about this.
Another thing that hasn't been mentioned is the potential impact that this has on new users. They'll try to create an account to post on the forum, but then be forced to make an account on Twitch and be discouraged by that (since they are not streaming videos and don't want to be forced to apply for a service that they don't want). Needless to say the amount of users on here will drop.
Also, if we have to merge accounts with Twitch to continue posting here, could the user experience be made a bit better? There are so many scripts running on this site that it loads much slower than most other webpages, and I'm still getting sketchy video ads at the bottom of the page that play sound every now and then.
New members have not been able to create new Minecraft Forum accounts directly for the last 6 months. Any new user has had to join the forum using a Twitch account, either by creating one or by logging in to their existing Twitch account. This has not had any negative impact on forum usage.
Because older users weren't forced to merge their account.
Honestly. I already posted here, but now I'm going to elaborate. I will keep Minecraft: Java on my computer just in case this whole thing blows over and the game isn't dead yet. But as I stated, turning Minecraft into a microtransaction-heavy, limited customization cash-grab is only going to drive people away, and the same goes for merging MCF and Twitch. I will not make a Twitch account. I will stop using these forums either until this is reverted, or forever. I will not make an Xbox Live account to play what used to be Pocket Edition on my phone. That game can sit there on my phone and rot. If the microtrasactions ever find their way onto Java edition, I solemnly swear I will erase every aspect of this game from my hard drive.
I will try to come up with a way for other users to contact me about Minecraft, but it's not looking too good right now since these forums have been my sole means of communication concerning this game. Goodbye crooked Twitch officials/helpless employees, and sadly, goodbye to my fellow forum members as well. Hope this can be resolved peacefully without the death of Minecraft, in any case I'll see you all later(or not).
Amen.
Geez, new-owner-people. Take your heads out of the Nether portal please.
@citricsquid: Are you at liberty to tell us what butthole promulgated this policy?
I was okay with merging MCF and Curse...ish. This is just way too far. I do not need and have no use for a Twitch account, and most especially I actively do not want one.
I guess if this goes ahead I'm gone too.
I'm out too, see you guys on another forum. Hope the mod makers find a new place too. These forums were a haven back in the day, not so much now
Mandatory. Account. Merging. Really? Just, why? Logging In used to be far easier than it is now, Account Security would probably just decrease because if hackers get one account they'll have access to both, etc.
Maybe, just maybe it'd have been better to instead do any of the following:
- Add the ability to edit profile posts
- Make the forum load faster
- Make the 'Edit Post' button work better by fixing some of the issues it has
- Making quotes look better by getting rid of the excess space
I get having it be optional, but why make it mandatory?
Why... Just why? Why is everything now merging with twitch? It's an annoyingly useless streaming pile.
twitches and shudders
So first they try to make the site ridiculously family-friendly with strict swearing filters, now they force users to link accounts with an unrelated site that makes gratuitous use of streamers who swear for the entertainment of their viewers. Delicious irony.
Glad I avoided my invitation to the Curse summit all those years ago. Hate to think about potentially being part of the mess this has become.
so now their forcing us to use a twitch account? that sucks
errr... why not Google account? Google have proper security than Twitch
Because the forums weren't bought by Google.
I do not approve of this idea.
But I love this forum.
so i made my own twitch account
I probably wont ever use it but I need my account
Wow, great, now i will be forced to make a Twitch Account? Bravo Minecraft Forum Staff, just bravo. *low clap* sry for that, i'm not happy about this 8/ not even a bit.
I simply wont be able to use my account on here anymore I guess. I will find an alternative different minecraft forum website if there is one.
I dont want twitch!!! I dont want a twitch account either. I dont have a need for it at all ever.
I just want my account seperate
Is that so hard to ask?
Wait, what about the people who don't have a Twitch account? Or those who just use Minecraft Forums, and probably won't ever do anything on Twitch?
You can create a Twitch account quickly and easily, for free, all you need to do is:
1. Go to My Account
2. Click "Merge Accounts"
3. Click "Create a new Twitch account"
4. Enter your chosen username, password and email
5. Click "Sign Up"
That's it!
