Here's what Mojang had to say on Minecraft.net:
Just a few months after we brought Minecraft to Nintendo Switch, we're double-dipping with the big N to bring the game to the New Nintendo 3DS series. Whatever next, an N64 port? Get on it, Jens! [...] That dual screen setup helps make crafting easier than ever, with quicker access to your inventory and a handy map on the touch screen, perfect for charting out your worlds.
Crazy, I was just reading a thread about how minecraft would work on a 3DS. Most of the replies said that it couldn't happen!
I honestly didn't think it could happen, but I'll probably get this at some point
I know my nephew would love it. His mom doesn't allow him to have a 3DS and he doesn't know how to play it on PC that well
I'm one of those people who thought it couldn't, imagine how surprised I am!
I'm still a bit doubtful though. It's a version that's on par with Pocket Edition Alpha, with worlds just over 2000*2000 blocks large.
Especially with that price tag of 30 bucks, I don't think it's worth it when compared to the better Bedrock based ports of Minecraft Switch and Minecraft PE.
It wasn't this thread was it ??
If so even I'm suprised.. even though we've had a homebrew version since 2011 - I even doubted it would be possible..
Just goes to prove Nintendo can still shock us
The framerate is trash though. Making a new world my game was at 18fps.
Looks like an absolute nightmare to play this.
The textures aren't the best, and it does look very odd, but I could see the appeal to a younger audience
30 dollars/22 quid? Seriously Mojang? Haven't you already made enough money? Not to mention it will certainly be worse than PC and any other versions due to the 3ds having so many limitations.
mojang sold minecraft to microsoft so blame microsoft
They chose to sellout. lol
$30 is average for a new and complex Nintendo game.
Well I'm not buying it for those prices, I can nearly get 2 PC accounts for that, and nearly get 6 copies of PE.
Well they had put in the effort to code the new game specifically for the 3DS platform and they can hardly expect it to be one of their more popular versions. Lots of work + small, predicted playerbase = steep price to make up the difference. They wouldn't charge so much if they didn't need to.
or people are just greedy and want as much money as they can get.
Congrats. Kids on their Nintendo devices and otherwise diehard Nintendo fans don't care. The point is that the $30 price tag isn't anything unusual.
Not people, but companies. A good company is greedy by nature because it'd fail if it weren't; that's just how finance works. No matter how honest the people at the top, the company or business is a different creature entirely with countless checks, approvals and cycles. Pricing matters go through the company and, for the most part, no single executive or CEO can change the figure that comes out the other side.
lots of people out there are greedy. and no unless mojang comes out and says that 30 $ is what it would be at a break even cost, we can assume they are ripping you off, for little content yet with the price tag of the consoles (if not more)
So true.
Remember a big chunk of that will be for licensing/whatever.
If I get it it'll be the cartridge one, because at that price I want my postage-stamp-sized piece of plastic.
Are they doing a cartridge for it? I though it was only for the Nintendo E store or whatever.
