Some time ago in Turkey, the Ministry of Family and Social Policy called on Turkish authorities to ban Minecraft from the country, claiming that it encouraged children to resort to violence. This request has certainly sparked some interesting conversation, and even prompted Mojang to comment on the request:
Quote from MojangMinecraft is enjoyed by many players in a wide variety of ways...many enjoy the creative freedom that’s presented by Minecraft and its tools, some are more interested by the opportunity to explore a landscape without boundaries and to go on exciting adventures with friends. We encourage players to cooperate in order to succeed, whether they’re building, exploring, or adventuring. The world of Minecraft can be a dangerous place: it’s inhabited by scary, genderless monsters that come out at night. It might be necessary to defend against them to survive. If people find this level of fantasy conflict upsetting, we would encourage them to play in Creative Mode, or to enable the Peaceful setting. Both of these options will prevent monsters from appearing in the world.
For a ban on Minecraft to take effect, a Turkish court would have to agree with the Family and Social Policy Ministry’s findings. If that occurs, they would likely block minecraft.net, which is required for customers to play the game. In general, Turkey isn't known for game bans; Minecraft would be seen as an exception, as it is considered to be made specifically and exclusively for children, according to the report.
Wait wat. You mean to tell me I've been lied to all this time!?
It has been made obvious (With 1 singular exception, the players) That Minecraft is genderless. Look at the mobs.
Chickens can both lay eggs, and have that red thingy... roosters have.
Cows have both otters and horns.
Enderman are called enderman, but could be both genders
Same with Creepers, Sheep, and everything else.
If a game about blocks, and fighting that includes only a simple swing animation, and poofing into smoke from dying is considered too violent, I would be surprised if they allowed games such as Call of Duty, or Grand Theft Auto, or Even Super Mario.
Note how it is said in the main post, " Minecraft would be seen as an exception, as it is considered to be made specifically and exclusively for children, according to the report."
Notice the underlined, bold, red words. They probably see games like CoD or GTA as adult games, and it is possible that they do not allow children to buy these games (sort of like how you might need to prove you are above the age of 18 in USA to buy a song track with explicit content). Minecraft has, and always will, be a game that is made for children and adults. Because of this, Turkey is concerned that there may be a violent influence to their children.
I guess they would rather us negotiate with the creepers and monsters instead of "poof" them :P.
and there will be a protest.
I couldn't have said it any better!
Censorship is ridiculous regardless but this as mister Garrison once said takes the full retard cake.
I am a parent and I can tell you that Pokemon is more violent. Even with mods its not okay to censor things because it just promotes that freedom is bad.
Pretty stupid that they would say Minecraft, a game with no blood, is "too violent."
And not minecraft?
That was a nice story, now change my diaper.
The PC version (currently) has no content rating.
