Minecraft Boosted Microsoft Sales by $171 Million?

One big question that came up often during the Microsoft/Mojang acquisition was, "why spend 2 billion dollars on Minecraft?" From a business perspective, it certainly seemed odd from the outside - the game is certainly popular, but is it that popular? Apparently so - from October to December 2014 (a quarter), first-party game earnings went up by $171 million, much of which is thought to be attributed to Minecraft sales. Keep in mind, this is just over a 3-month period. Could you imagine how high that could go in one year? A sound investment, indeed!

Between its massive success on nearly every platform on Earth, and its eventual inclusion in HoloLens, Minecraft not only isn't slowing down - it's only getting bigger. 2015 will be a good year for the game!
