According to the Wall Street Journal, Microsoft may be nearing a deal to buy Mojang AB, makers of the Minecraft video game franchise. If the deal proves legitimate, it would value Mojang at more than $2 billion, and could be signed as early as this week. So far, neither Mojang AB or Microsoft have commented publicly on the situation.
In the past, Mojang - and Notch, in particular - have expressed no desire to be involved with other major corporations, or sell the Minecraft franchise. Mojang has often bucked the trend of the video game industry, refusing to give in on principle to a number of standard practices.
At this time, there is no clear confirmation or information about the alleged deal. Keep your eyes peeled - this is going to be a very interesting week!
It's already cross-platform. If anything, they'll lessen that support, due to how stubborn MS is.
Stay away, please.
if your an xbox 360 or xbone owner this is great news
as a PC owner this is........well i dunno. so many different variables to consider
whatever catagory you fit in there is one thing that is a FACT...............................things are gonna change
for the worse? opinion
for the best? opinion
Worse, much worse. MC will become a cash cow for Microsoft and the game will be dead.
a deal like that takes time, which means while we were getting tweets about updates progresses and cool facebook updates from 4J the minecraft world as we know it was secretly being carved out.
*sigh* well i guess its just business, i cant knock anyone involved.
i just recently got into minecraft on the ps3 & bought the ps4 version yesterday.
this is it guess, enjoy what you have as far as updates
This is a sad day...
Presumably bad thing since Microsoft will want to get as much cash out of Minecraft as they can, aka DLCs, no private servers, subscription-based accounts, and other crap like that.
One of the things that has made Minecraft so great within the community is Mojang's continued player-focused approach to policy and development.
Microsoft, you better take good care of this game, because it's worth a whole lot more than $2 billion.
How can anyone see the benefits in this? Microsoft is going to turn Minecraft in a money making machine at the expense of losing maybe half of it's community. That's why I like it when games are independent. They aren't weighed down by corporate ideas that isn't the community's voice. How can some of you morons, obviously Microsoft fanboys or fanboys of corporations in the gaming industry determining how a game should be played. See anything good with this?
Just how certain do you think is Microsoft going to assure that there will be server improvements, better layout tools and etc. Do you think they'll listen to the Minecraft community at all? No, I don't think so. So don't be holding your breaths because Microsoft is going to find a way to break the game, you just watch. I don't even want to think of the idea they could get should they proceed it that they mark those who pay a one-time fee for minecraft. Then turn it into a subscription to play. They'll find something to **** off this community and break the game. And lastly, when Microsoft is done milking what it could off of this game, it's gonna leave it in the dust!
Do you want that?
I don't. At all.
