According to the Wall Street Journal, Microsoft may be nearing a deal to buy Mojang AB, makers of the Minecraft video game franchise. If the deal proves legitimate, it would value Mojang at more than $2 billion, and could be signed as early as this week. So far, neither Mojang AB or Microsoft have commented publicly on the situation.
In the past, Mojang - and Notch, in particular - have expressed no desire to be involved with other major corporations, or sell the Minecraft franchise. Mojang has often bucked the trend of the video game industry, refusing to give in on principle to a number of standard practices.
At this time, there is no clear confirmation or information about the alleged deal. Keep your eyes peeled - this is going to be a very interesting week!
NO SOONER THAN THAT!
It isn't directly based off of DOS, but it uses a lot of the tech DOS used.
1. Playstation Editions of Minecraft will be closed down.
2. Microtransactions will be added, one way or another.
3. The Modding community will most likely be eradicated.
4. The Community itself will be ignored.
And worst of all?
5. Mojang will CRASH AND BURN.
I am hoping that this will not happen because Notch has proven that the actions that have been taken are not about money and hope that this has not changed. I know the money is hard to turn down, but it will show us all that it is still not about the money if this does not happen.
If it is about money, then give us a way to show our support for not letting this happen. What about a kickstarter for 2.1B dollars. I think a great reward for donating would be to not have this become "MS Minecraft and the valley of lost creations"
Either way thank you Notch for starting this and to the team at Mojang for all the work that has gone into making Minecraft great.
Microsoft sucks at games
I think if nothing else, we may get some organization as it pertains to mods, server software and the elusive mod api.
Mods will either be removed (competition with MS trying to make DLC) or you'll need to pay licensing fees or some crap like that.
