That's a good idea, probably even better with sand or gravel instead of dirt (so you can dismantle it from ground level).

Whenever I need to make circles, I just use this diagram:
    Link to a bigger version

Just pick the diameter you want and follow the design.

Did you two even READ the OP?

OP, I always use Paint, but I've never used MCEdit so I don't know if there's an easier way.

Are you sure you placed the new fence in the same spot as it was before? My fence disappeared for several hours yesterday, but it was still there, just invisible for some reason. I left it alone and eventually it reappeared again. *shrug*

I'm pretty sure everyone breaks those rules

For some reason I just had this vision of Moses standing in front of a crowd of Israelites, giving a long sermon about the 10 commandments for the first time. His speech is pious and passionate, and at the end of this beautiful, heartfelt speech, there is a moment of silence.

Then a member of the tribe steps forward and says, "I'm pretty sure everyone breaks those rules." The other tribe members nod and murmur their agreement and the crowd disperses, returning to their daily routines.

(Not trying to say these rules are good/serious, nor start a flamewar about Christianity, just a funny image I had in my head.)

You're thinking of the word "fiend" as in a diabolical being or an obsessive person. The gaming related is a totally different word.

What? How is using the word "fiend" in a gaming context make it a different word?
Are we using that as a synonym for "mob"?

The guy I quoted is using it for all hostile mobs, when not all hostile mobs meet the general definition of "fiend". This will become especially obvious when dangerous water mobs (probably sharks) are introduced. I'd love to hear an argument about how sharks are demonic. :Notch:

"Fiend" does not come from "friend", although both are fossilized present participles of verbs that no longer exist.

You're thinking of the word "fiend" as in a diabolical being or an obsessive person. The gaming related is a totally different word. After all, a zombie is neither demonic nor obsessive -- at least, not in Minecraft, where there are no brains to nibble on. No brains at all.

I cannot remember where I read it but I believe it was a shortened version of "mobile" and is indeed pronounced "Mobe". I however just call them critters.

Due to the intense controversy, pointless arguemens, and overall silliness of this thread, I will no longer say maw . Or Mobe. I will now call friendly animals critters, and hostile enemies fiends as a general or by their name as singulars.

Ex: I saw some fiends the other day, one of them was a skeleton.
Look at that herd of critters over there, jumping up and down on the grass!

I reserve the right to call the fiends fiendish fiends as well. There is one thing I will agree on, however!
The English language makes no damn sense at all. Seriously, look at i/e
    I before e. Okay.
Except after c though! Well I guess that's oka-
and not in words like neighbor!
    :Skeleton:

OK BUT WHAT ABOUT THE PROPER PRONUNCIATION OF 'FIENDS'. IT'S NOT FEEENDS COS IT COMES FROM THE WORD "FRIENDS" BUT WITHOUT THE 'RRRRR' (PURRING/HAPPINESS) SO I THINK ITS FENDS. LETS START A POLL. :Notch:

posted a message on [POLL] Pronunciation Of Mob
Most of the search results for 'game mob pronunciation' (no quotes) are people arguing about what the pronunciation actually is. The majority of people say mawb, but mohb was the original pronunciation and many people say it that way too. Y'know, words are ALLOWED to have multiple pronunciations, people...

How would growing trees help me? The leaves are not harvestable.

Grow trees close to your big tree, so that when it grows the leaves will appear where you want them to be. :smile.gif:

EDIT: DO NOT use cactus, you can't place two cactus pieces side-by-side so your tree will look messed-up.

I meant automated Cactus farm to collect dye.

    Ah OK, my bad. :Notch:

Yea umm question...Why is there no Grass if the dirt is in a high light level and is not man-made?

Maybe grass only spawns (upon chunk generation) on well-lit dirt if it's also the topmost block? Just a guess, but I was watching one of the really old MC youtube videos (the one where it's still referred to as a "clone of Infiniminer" :biggrin.gif:) and Notch said that grass only grows on the topmost block, because only the topmost block is in the light. Obviously this was before lava/torches/etc., and grass doesn't magically appear on topmost lit dirt blocks anymore, but it could still work that way for chunk generation. Having a topmost rule would make sense for grass, otherwise we'd get grass around many lava pools, which would just look weird.

    1. more optimization for speeeed
    2. semitransparent glass texture, instead of streaky opaque texture that makes big windows look like poop
    3. more blocks that can be used in machinery/contraptions (light sensor, floodgates, etc)
    4. more building blocks, particularly wooden gates and stairs&half-steps for most solid "building" block types (sandstone, smoothstone, wood, etc.)
    5. more animals (neutral)

posted a message on How to keep on playing?
Yup, it sucks, and it usually happens to me once or twice every save, before I babyproof my game. :biggrin.gif: If you think you could recognize your base from a map, you can try downloading Cartograph to see where it is relative to your spawn point (build something distinctive on your spawn point so you can tell from the Cartograph map where that is, too -- preferably include torches).

Once you've made it back and restored your base to its former glory (or even before that), make it so you can navigate back without Cartograph's help -- you can build paths, directional markers, or (if you're really ambitious) a minecart track to take you there automatically. If your base is really close to spawn and high up, just hard to recognize from your spawn point, you can throw up torches in a specific pattern to make it more recognizable.

Look at the edit notice on the OP, the responses from the other posters, and the title on the 2nd and 3rd posts. No spammer, just someone who made a mistake and corrected it.

    So yes.
