Uhhhm, is this vanilla? If so, get your server.properties file, I'll edit it for you.
It is vanilla now and I can't tell if it's working. It was bukkit's beta version for 1.2.3, but now I reverted to vanilla for the server. There are monsters spawning, and it's on hard difficulty still, but I can't help but feel like there are still hardly any spawning.
So I just got a new server from BeastNode.com, but I've noticed that spawn_monsters is true and difficulty is on 3 but ABSOLUTELY NO MONSTERS SPAWN.
I event went into a ravine at night and got everything it had to offer without seeing one monster. Normal animals spawn, and not sure about villagers because haven't found a village yet, but there is absolutely no monster spawning. Restarting server and everything doesn't fix anything, anybody know what gives? (it's clearly not the settings)

Thanks for the general "google it, I'm an ass" response. I know what a VPN is, I fail to see how it benefits a minecraft server. All it is is a secure network, and totally useless for Minecraft unless you want multiple admins to have direct-file access. That why I was curious if Hamachi servers were more than your basic VPN/VPS.
So, all I was asking was; "is that all it's for or am I missing something?"
Some people don't like giving out their Personal Computer IP address for friends to connect.
Why are you trying to start another fight with me like you did in the hunger bar topic? Oh and btw, when you try to correct someone the person you are trying to correct is obviousley right, then it doesn't matter if were on the minecraft forums or Harvard.
How does one go about being on Harvard. Do you need some kind of janitor keys?
Many users on my server (that runs 1.8.1) have reported like a 30 second 'delay' on everything they do. It's like lag for them, and I can't figure out why it's happening.
They have 5/5 latency bars, so it can't be their connection. Also, they live right next to some other users of mine that can run it just fine, so again... it's not their connection.
What is causing it? Is it just bad optimization on some systems for 1.8, is there a fix? Is something wrong on the server?
IT'S NOT LATENCY ISSUES. I said that in the first post, they have a 5/5 bar connection; yet everything is 'delayed' for them. They break a block, it breaks 30 seconds later. They die, they die 20 seconds later. But they have 5/5 green connection. For some users, it works fine, and others it doesn't. Yet they all have great connections. The server isn't even using more than half the ram allocated to it, so it can't be the RAM.
Some of the users on my 1.8.1 server are reporting lag that is making Minecraft unplayable. I was almost positive it was the game, not server-side. This is because half of us are playing just fine without lag (me included), and some are reporting the same 'lag' issues. They have great FPS, and their ping is either 4/5 or 5/5 bars, yet they are 'lagging'. Blocks have a delay on them when getting destroyed for what they drop, and they are like 10 seconds behind us 'normal' players for just about everything they do.
What is causing this? I tried doing regular vanilla 1.8.1, and also the latest experimental bukkit version and both are causing the same lag problems for a few select players on my server.
I would like to reiterate the fact that it isn't latency or FPS lag, but the behaviors are similar to something like latency lag.
One of them reported the lag didn't exist in a singleplayer world. Any idea what the cause of this might be? I can't imagine it's something with the server because some people are fine and some aren't. I for one am running just fine on it and the server isn't even running on my PC.

Like in an inventory/chest?

I've noticed that I can't drag blocks at all. I've tried restarting the game and even my computer, and it still doesn't work.
What the heck is going on?

Solution: Hamachi.
Man, that was hard to figure out.

Well it's the same users (about half) that are having the issues every time. The server has 768mb and I'm renting from BeastNode.com (Cow plan)

And I'm renting from BeastNode, if that matters.
