nice ideas yourself there. I assumed that other people had the miner's helmet idea already.
For the scuba gear, I have this idea that we would need a plastic/rubber material. I still have to think about it a bit more. I was thinking about how current blocks could be used, but that might not be possible.
I will try to add up the recipes later if I have the time, but I don't feel like it. XD I just assume that if Notch liked the idea he, or someone else would figure it out. If you want to give me the pics, I will copy and paste them in.
For your javelin idea, I like it. I would say they should be a one shot kill, and each recipe makes 2.
For your spear idea. I think its an interesting item. It could perhaps be a weapon that has reach one square further than a sword. That would be handy for creepers!
This is my list of ideas, there will be updates, so check back often. Please PLEASE give me feedback on these ideas. I want to see what people think, and talk about the ideas. Please leave a response post.
= newly added idea, I will remove the old update notes every time I update.
blocks/raw material:
-ivy[grows on large flat vertical surfaces, it functions like a ladder, fire burns it, and planting a seed will make it grow up until it reaches horizontal space]
- fossil[block of fossilized matter. It would appear in the same areas required for coal to appear in. Its uses would be to create oil. Also if certain combos are made on a crafting table, it would yield fossil statues for your house.
- bone[a possible alternative drop for zombies. Uses could be bone tools perhaps?]
-tropical trees&coconuts[tropical trees can grow only in areas where there is sand. They don't grow unless they are near water as well, so that we only find them on islands and beaches(hopefully). Coconuts could be a quick 2 heart food when used.]
Crafted items(non-clothing):
- oil[used as a powerful light source as well as be able to be refined into an "elastic" block, which would be like rubber/plastic.]
-elastic block[a block that is used to create certain items like flippers]
-fireplace[made from a stove and a torch, it cooks items quicker than a stove and provides a constant light source. comes in stone or steel]
- telescope[made with glass and steel, this item will allow for a zoomed in view when right clicked. Good for scouting out new areas and scouting for mobs at night]
- harp[created with either steel or gold, and string. is not a hand held item, but once you set it down, right click it to play. It will cause more friendly mobs to spawn in the area and draws all mobs(including hostile ones to its location] <--glass=string
- cloth arrows[4 arrows and 1 wool makes 4 cloth arrows. arrows do normal arrow damage, but also burn the target until it dies or touches water. to ignite the cloth arrows with fire, a flint and steel must be held in pack, and will degrade it over time.
- mirror[this item can be placed on block faces, it will reflect light. It is made with a bar of steel, then glass. It will yield 3-4 sheets of mirror that go on walls. placing 3 pieces of mirror in a diagonal will make an angular mirror that acts to reflect at 45 degrees. right clicking this type of block will cause it to rotate to reflect in the desired direction. Potential good item for making other new recipes]
- obsidian chisel&hammer[obsidian could be used for unique tools only available with obsidian, this would create a better reason to keep playing after getting diamond items. anyhow, this item could be used to make carved stone for statues and breaking off halves of stone, cobblestone, gold, obsidian and steel blocks. The hammer would just be stone, handles made of a stick. [] [] [] []
trying to do them individually could yield nothing(unless a hammer is ever needed in the future) so that a possible obsidian sword would not conflict with this design.]
- obsidian knife[could be used,(again exclusively as the only knife) to sharpen sticks for simple spears or any other new wood items. I also think that using it with 2 rows of bamboo and one row of planks could make a spear trap block.]
-spear trap[a block that acts like a cactus, but running into it sideways does no damage. This could also be made so that if you come down on it from above you "sink into it" much like water, and you get get out of it if you jump or walk out sideways(unless that is impossible you/a mob is stuck and dies)]
- spring[created with steel, this block activates upon contact or connections with red dust. Could provide lots of neat new ideas to use with yourself and mobs!]
[] [] []
- clockwork[a simple item made with four steel bars in a square that yields 4 clockworks. Can be used for a whole new automated system.]
-clock[made with a clockwork sourrounded by sticks, this item can be placed on a wall and simply shows a hand progress around a clock that shows a day night cycle. Pretty simple item. This with two planks below it can then make a grandfather clock]
clothes/wearable stuff:
-scuba tank[breath underwater lasts longer]
-flippers[allows faster and more nimble movement in water]
- miner's helmet[uses a leather, steel, gold, or diamond helmet and torch(or coal) to make a helmet that produces a light source]
- Hiking boots[uses leather boots and two pieces of wool. They will allow the wearer to fall from higher distances, and take less damage on all falls except for fatal falls.]
bad guys(mobs):
-ghost[semi transparent mob that can float through 1 space of blocks freely, but burns from any light source including torches]
- mimic[a creature that could pretend to be a treasure chest, but really be a monster once you get close. It would attack you of course. Its drops would be that from a chest. A variant could be a diamond brick, but it would drop a diamond only if a steel sword or diamond sword was used to kill it.(that or steel/diamond pickaxe)
annoying things(animals)
alterations:
-creepers[need to make noise, they don't appear to make a walking noise]
-change glass so that there are fewer pixels on it to allow players to see better, or make those pixels partially transparent.
-smoother lighting, that blends from one block to the next, could be part of the high detail graphics mode.
-copy/paste files from one slot to the next, or be able to share save files. This could be useful for maps with roller-coasters or building designs, or really cool worlds people made in sandbox mode. This would also prevent griefers from ruining someone's hard work when they try to share it with the world. This could be a controlled thing where the only sharable files have to be approved first? Maybe, or just freely sharing works too.
-give mossy cobblestone the ability to spread to other cobblestone, or be the alternative to my ivy idea, making dungeons even more valuable.
- Create friendly mob spawners by taking a full 3x3 of the item needed, and it makes a spawner that lasts for however long would be appropriate. It would be long enough that if you farmed it as soon as the animal spawned, it would give enough supplies to return a few times over, but short enough so that it would not last so long that you could go away and come back a day later and expect to get your input of supplies back.
Since this is a list of stuff, just for fun, I will include a list of glitches I encounter::
-creeper stopped moving while perusing me
-caught a tree on fire, it burned and caught an adjacent tree on fire, that second tree burned, but left two wood blocks that would not burn out, they still remain forever on fire floating in the air
-spawning point didn't change when the space started underwater
-when trying to plant seeds in a well lit, watered and tilled piece of dirt that is in a corner of a room, the seeds disappear shortly after being planted.
- a friend reports(claims) getting underneath the map and finding empty sky
