    pretty much the best physical mod ever. Could you create a new part that lets each biome have its own version of mob skins? This way my skeletons can be mummies in the desert, and sheep can be rams in the snowy mountain areas.

    I was just thinking this. Boats are great, except they are a nuisence once you exit them. Not only do they fly off into the ocean, they sometimes smash into blocks and explode, or otherwise are stranded out in the ocean so you have to swim to it. At the very least, let it break into its components so that I don't have to cry out the fact I had to lose a boat.

    yeah, anyhow, the point is, modest arrows, not crazy overpowered arrows. The only thing is that ghasts are pretty impossible to kill, that is what the fast arrow is for mainly, it wouldn't do much good for other mobs. Ghasts need to have a shorter range of fire...its not fair....anyhow, I am just looking for arrows that Notch would actually see as balanced and simple enough to make to put in game.

    Slimes are the main problem. I haven't found any info on the algorithm of their spawns, except that some chunks will have lots of slimes, while others will rarely ever spawn one. I doubt light would affect their spawns at all. I would just keep a sword or bow handy at all times.

    oh good, I had noticed that there seemed to be no difference. according to minecraftwiki, slimes spawn in the bottom 16 blocks only, making deep mining a bit risky, but if we use these tactics, we are using small corridors, so they won't be much threat.

    yes please. I want to put my short stories in bookshelves on my SMP server soooo bad. But I would prefer that the bookshelf itself hold a specific book so people can right click the shelf and get the book text.

    Okay guys, I know arrows have been killed over and over, and infact there are arrow mods that do insane things. Officially though, nothing has been done, and I don't blame Notch, we are being unreasonable! Here are some obvious, but down to earth arrow ideas.

    The iron arrow is like an upgraded normal arrow. Does more damage. Makes just as many arrows as flint does.

    obsidian arrows are the third and most powerful arrow. Where flint arrows are like wood swords, and iron arrows are like the stone sword of ranged combat, this is like the steel sword of ranged combat. Since this requires a diamond pick, it is just as powerful as it is annoying to obtain.

    the fly true arrow. This arrow is like a flint arrow, but it flies quickly and nearly straight in the desired direction. if picked up, it only yields a normal flint arrow. It also knocks back mobs more because of its speed.

    fire arrow. This one is overdone, but it has its uses. My version will ignite the block it lands on as if a flint and steel was used. If it hits a mob, it also lights on fire, but will dissipate much like when you use a flint and steel on a mob. This arrow yields only one arrow if made.

    the slime arrow uses the power of slime to stun a mob for a few seconds. creepers won't explode, skeletons won't fire at you. this arrow does no damage, so a quick switch to melee weapons is required to take it out.

    no light arrows, no exploding arrows, no mob making/influencing arrows, no other crazy arrows, just things that make sense and are possible to make and deal with.

    Since my normal SMP server is having issues, and this one seems really fun and talented I think I will apply, I hope to get in and see the beauty of it. I may not have huge things to contribute, but I am proud of what I have done.


    This was my first mining operation. A vertical shaft that has 7 levels. This is the first level, named serenity. The path connects to my first base, it also links to my greenhouse with a ladder.


    This is the greenhouse. My first structure for food, and the best one I have made. It utilizes an underground level of water to reduce ugly water tracts.

    I have also just read the elites of minecraft: the miner thread, thanks for putting that in the OP.

    nice point. Torches are essential to mining and this guide lacks detail about it. WOuld append it well. Just remember that now as you go deeper in a mine, more light is needed to fend off mobs. I am not sure if that depends on how many blocks are above the block of air you occupy, or if it depends on the true depth in the map. I may be mistaken as I haven't noticed any difference after the haloween update.

    Another thing to remember is that after a certain depth, slimes can spawn even in lighted areas. This is really the only variable as far as lighting goes, because slimes can do as they please in the depths of a mine, although I think that if the mine is small enough you can keep the slime to a small enough size that it is no threat. Basically have to keep the corridors at a space of 1 in one direction, so X or z, since you need 2 to move in the Y plane. Nice thread, this really helped me a lot, can't wait to use it.

    yea I just read that notch updated SMP, we can kill chickens now :/ but we still haven't got him to say he fixed the block lag, so I don't really care. HE needs to do that first. Whatever. I am sure that is why the water failed.

    OH hell, someone majorly griefed. The gaint wooden minecart area outside the city has been burned down. Can't tell who did it. Maybe fire and lava should be made illegal. I will try to put out the fire.

    looks like a great sever. I don't think I could contribute any monumental structure like those made or in progress, but I would have to say it looks nice. YOu should make a tour video of your server map. I think I will stick with my server, where my modest buildings won't be a shame to your server.

    yeah I noticed what I did wednesday night didn't save over to thursday while it was running, but I assume that was some mess with the migration, I didn't mind, the wait is worth the anti-lag block fail Notch did.

    Found a huge valley of cave systems in alpha single player. When I say huge, I don't mean the normal huge you think of, I mean huge massive large obese huge. Tons of iron for me in single player(yay)
