Bah!! I still can't paste a .schematic, and things have actually gotten WORSE, since powered rails oriented north-south will actually break away from connecting rails and reorient now.

I posted the question to the WorldEdit forums. Let's see if they have any ideas.

On the plus side, all the design elements are still working happily in 1.1! Grizdale has posted a nice revision of the select buttons design that I still need to evaluate.

. We have an As Vanilla As Possible ethos on this server

    Quote from caramba2654

    Also, bold part. WTF?

We have a principle (ethos) of deviating from the unmodified game experience as little as possible. Plugins are generally there to get us closer to that ideal by preventing hacks or correcting bugs. That means all the megaprojects are built by hand, usually over multiple months. All legit items are used (with the rails for the longer public rail lines being the notable exception) and anything tall has definitely claimed dozens of lives while it was built. Occasionally you'll see markers where we kept a tally of how often our buildings killed us.

When we do advertise the server, (which isn't often) we try to promote this Vanilla interpretation, which is fairly rare, but we think it's reasonable. We're going to be forced to deviate from it in the near future to address limitations in the world generator, but in general, that's how we interpret Minecraft.

For me, being an admin and having creative powers basically ruins the fun of the game. We periodically de-op our admins to get some of the fun back.

Actually TMI can be used in multyplayer too. It issues the /i command

Oh, okay. Then if Tavi gives the okay to grant /i to everyone, it would be fine.

How are we working with cannons if TNT is disabled on most servers?

TNT could definitely be enabled for the WoR world. It's Tavi's call. Obviously everyone there is expected to know what they're doing and be demonstrating, not experimenting. There would be a one-strike-and-you're-out policy with TNT accidents.

Can you remove speed limits on that world? It's because I'm trying to use zombe's flymod (which is much better than classic fly) but I can't without hiccuping.

I'm sorry, but we stick to whatever the current version of NoCheat enforces. Without a few basic protections, most servers rapidly get griefed. If Tavi wants, we can give everyone /jumpto and /tp, which are faster than flying for any distance where it actually matters. We have an As Vanilla As Possible ethos on this server, since part of its purpose is as a place to design things that will work anywhere, not just on a place with specific mods.

    Quote from caramba2654
And TMI. It's much more practical than dragging the item into your hotbar.

I understand that TMI is a single-player mod, so it doesn't really apply here. If Tavi wants to, we can give everyone item-loading abilities. However, I think for a tutorial world, my vote would be to stick to things that can be obtained legitimately in survival, and not have players loading items with bad extended data. (Such as the invisible stairs trick used for displays.)

Ok, only one more thing: Can you allow the character § ?

We use HeroChat, which allows for colored font, which universally turns chat into an irritating and annoying mass of rainbow colored spam the moment players discover it. It's currently disabled, but if Tavi wants, we can turn chat coloring on.

On another note I went ahead and turned off all the clocks in TaviRider's WoR 1.1

Thanks, some other admins and I were looking at them last night and wondering if we should do that. Performance is such a weird moving target and hard to evaluate. For poor internet connections, if we turn on all the redstone at main world spawn, sometimes that's all that ever loads and you float in the void watching Hubris tower animate.

Also, figured out why I didn't have any permissions: My IGN is arshia111, not caramba2654.

Thanks! Updated for the correct name. Please try again.

I'm a tourist and I can't use the WOR Tardis.

But I can talk in normal chat. :biggrin.gif:

    What's your In-Game-Name? Are you "arshia111" and not "caramba2654"?

That would explain it, since I've been working off TaviRider's player list in the first post, and you're only listed as caramba2654 there.

Will do, hopefully tonight. Depends on traffic! I was also hoping to rescue our old map from the previous server, but neither Shrogg nor Jessassin replied to my message.

I see Shrogg on the RDF server fairly frequently, and there's a lot of overlap between players there and this project. Hopefully someone will get an answer. If you can recover the old map, we can import it and copy things over.

Yeah, Tavi needs to update the first post.

And yeah, I don't have any permissions neither...

Okay, what exactly are you missing? You should be set up as a Junior builder as "caramba2654"

Can you use the portal to the World of Redstone creative flat world?

In the WoR world, can you place/break blocks? You should be able to in +-1000. (Except for the return portal.)

In the WoR world, can you talk on /ch w? In the other worlds, can you use /ch g?

Thanks for helping test the setup!

I am unable to speak on the server.

Oops! Testers weren't correctly added. Fixed that, with LinX852456 as your IGN.

You should be able to use WoR chat (/ch w) in the WoR creative world, and general chat (/ch g) on the rest of the server.

Right now, I haven't defined a region where testers can build, so we'll probably want to give seniors, at least, the ability to define those regions. The main server allows guests to use buttons/levers/doors/minecarts, so maybe TaviRider will want a similar setup in WoR?

    How's it look now?

    Hi All,

The World of Redstone development world is up and running and everyone's access should be working!

You can reach the World of Redstone world by connecting to defenestration.co and walking to a portal. The WoR portal is located in the portal hall, a building with netherrock columns visible from /spawn just past the playground. The second portal on the right (the Tardis) will take you to the WoR portal room. Once in WoR, your mode will switch to creative. Access to WoR world is whitelisted at the moment.

I'll help and advise however I can, but this is 100% TaviRider's project, and he has final say on how it's run.

Some permissions remain to be ironed out, like who will have WorldEdit tools and who can make WorldGuard regions.

Right now I've restricted building to +-1000, unless we need more room.

    Enjoy, and good luck!

The delay up to this point has been server config, but as soon as TaviRider is back and available to organize his project, the server should be ready in <24 hours. (He needs to make a couple calls on who gets which permissions, but I think that's all.)

Sorry for the delay! The 1.1 upgrade plus admin hiatuses slowed us down. The new server environment is up, configured and tested. I just let Tavirider know, and once he's online, we can get everyone else's permissions set, and then there shouldn't be any more server obstacles.

The project is not abandoned, just badly stalled because of the server setup.

In my experience, Jessassin does a great job with the RDF server, but if there's still a protracted delay, I can provide hosting and have an experienced and reliable admin team. Since we're survival-oriented, a couple of them were considering building a redstone museum with some of the same goals. My hosting plan is on the lowish-end, being a 40-slot Provisionhost plan. With the crappy performance changes in MC 1.0, I dislike going much above 20 people on at once, though. It's As Vanilla As Possible plugin choices, and the our biggest restriction is that we have no tolerance for people who spell "you" as "u."

I know the original WOR was structured as a single-user map to be downloaded, but I'd also be interested in ways to present it as a resource in SMP.

Contact mcdefenestration (at) gmail.com if interested.

Wow, that was a very nice system you had there(I assume you have updated it since 1.2), cart dispensers are always a good compact way for distributing carts(If you haven't made a distributer yet.)

Thanks! It's been updated continually and is running on a few servers, most notably at defenestration.co right now.

I need to figure out how to distribute it again, which means a long round of changing plugin versions and testing. It looks like Worldedit //paste triggers block update events differently than it once did, which kills the ability to paste this station, which achieves compactness using a few sections where track has to be placed in the correct order.

Sorry for the delay, I'll post the schematic as soon as Worldedit works.

Edit: ooh, if //paste is off the table, I bet I can write a worldedit .rc script to place the tracks in the right order. Now all I need is some free time.

Argh! I made a new .schematic, but WorldEdit has gotten MUCH worse at pasting rails! It's pretty horribly bad right now, so I'll have to research how to get it to work. Maybe I just need to update dev builds, but it looks like the 1.0 did some damage to Worldedit in general.

Strangely, the state of the art in Minecart stations seems to be going backwards right now as good examples get buried. As I work on how to share designs effectively again (we might be reduced to world files for the time being!) I'll try to identify some other good stations so hopefully people will have better examples to work from.
