Thanks to Sabata2, this is what I think the changes should be:

Nethershrooms: they should glow random colors wherever they are placed, possibly changing color if they receive a redstone current. Instead of giving different properties to different colors, make it unilateral, where there is no poison/antidote system and all Nethershrooms form "neon dye" in crafting that can be mixed with any of the other dyes to make that color glow.

Grimwood: although a great addition, the point that Sabata2 made of using it to solidify all the lava in the nether is a big deal. I would rather not have it.

Hellbulbs: I retain my suggestion about these. They would slowly grow roots over nearby blocks and the roots would count as pressure plates for detonating all Hellbulbs connected. Possibly, they could spawn new Hellbulbs every time the roots cover 5 blocks away from another hellbulb, possibly allowing players to create a "deadly farm" using them.

Dorodium: remove it. It's greatest use (turning all nearby lava into obsidian and cobblestone, especially in a world that is mostly lava) is also the most game-breaking. Not only that but the matter of double-smelting it is beyond understandable minecrafting to most people. Although the freezer is a great addition, it doesn't match the Nether.

Charoite: remove it, long with the sanctuary block and the portal. It is not Nether-like, but a good addition to a magic thread.

Kitrinite: It's usefulness (the fastest and the most fragile tools) is great enough for me to overlook it being in the Nether, but we need to change it to be more hell-like.

Thermosetite: great. a solid block that glows and damages on contact (useful like lava but without having to worry about lava flow or falling into it) or can be gathered to make magma items. I'd say that Minecraft is fictional enough that we won't have to worry about making "cold handles" for it. Also the usefulness of the magma items fit as a great reward for mining it out of the Nether.

Shadeglass: Instead of making it out of Thermosetite (a rare and powerful ore), I would rather it be made when smelting Soulsand. also, I propose a different mechanic for its use: have it transparent without letting any light through. I can imagine a lot of usefulness of that!

Glowsand: the only usefulness of this would be if you can gather it whole (or at least in 4 powders). However I still don't agree with it being sand-like. It doesn't seem that cool.

Mobs: you mention a lot of hostile and neutral mobs, but other than increased difficulty (something the Nether already has a lot of) I see no use for these. Although I would like a bit more elaboration on the Shade/Nethersoul/Wraith, but that is just because I suggested it in the first place . (you didn't include my details of it either)

Music: Definitely like, but it should be a bit more ambient. Possibly just by removing the higher notes it would be perfect.

Soulplasm: interesting, but its effect is very much just a hindrance and its only usefulness is putting out lava, which I don't think should be in the Nether.

Freezer: A lot of usefulness, but just as Sabata2 said it would be the only use of Grimwood. It also has freezing and storing at the same time which I don't think it should have.

There is only one problem I have with this crafting grid. Many of the 2x2 crafting grid items still require the use of a smelted ore. If you are in a pinch and you don't have an oven, but you have raw materials you are screwed... unless you have a crafting bench on hand. But that defeats the purpose of this, since your justification for making the smaller tools is that ultimately, you need a crafting bench.

If we were able to use the raw materials to craft our item, then this has some real emergency utility. Of coarse, the durability on most of these items would have to be simply terrible in order to discourage their use, but if you absolutely need them, they are there to save you.

Other than that, I love this idea!

I guess you didn't know that you could make wooden mini tools?

A few suggestions/notes I would like to make:

Nethershrooms: Doing great, would love to have more colors to deal with (neon dyes)

Grimwood: Its properties of being flame-resistant is its best feature, but for items made of Grimwood what would make a Grimwood door better than a normal door?

Thermosetite: instead of making ingots when breaking blocks, why not make it look like clay does? Then the block-to-ingot recipes would make more sense.

Durodium: Thinking up on the soft version, I was thinking, why not merge it with Thermosetite?
What I mean is, if you put a Thermosetite block into a Grimwood Freezer it should create a Durodium ingot. (not having to deal with hard and soft versions) This also means you won't have to deal with Durodium sticks, as it could simply require Grimwood instead. On another note, how about naming it Durtanium instead?

Hell Bulbs: I like the idea of it slowly growing roots across the top nearby blocks, and all the roots will act as pressure plates for detonating it. I think the maximum root length should be 3 blocks, but if the roots of multiple Hell Bulbs connect then it will detonate them all!

Charoite: I don't think it should be used as a freezer fuel considering how rare it is. I do like the idea of the Sanctuary block breaking down into 9 crystals when broken. However, I think that specific mobs should be immune to the repel, the most obvious choice being creepers.

Kitrinite: I like how it works for a freezer like coal does for the furnace, but that property doesn't really show itself without prior knowledge. However I do like the fact that it works in building lightning-fast (but fragile) tools, making Kitrinite pickaxes the perfect tool for mining obsidian.

Sapropype: I think the name you are looking for is Saprophyte, which going by that name I can't think of any Nether plant that would fit. However I will note my previous Ooze Crop idea. I thought I posted another (Steel Thorns) but I cant find it.

Portal Blocks: How about having portal blocks only capable of strait travel? For example, if you step onto it you can only travel to a portal block in the direction you are facing (after the "portal swirl" you get from using portals). That way, there isn't any complicated interface that Notch has to program and the portals will be usable even up and down (almost like elevators!). Another note, how about the portals have to be activated with fire first (like Nether portals) and then last for 5 minutes or until you use it?

What about scopes or rangefinders that can be attached to bows and crossbows?
    They could be crafted like this;
    [] :Iron: []
    :Iron: :Glass: :Iron:
    [] :Iron: []
Just a basic idea, makes you zoom in if you hold down the left mouse button with said weapon equipped.
    Might also increase range?
EDIT: The scope might also be used on its own as a telescope?

The idea of a telescope has many threads already, and I think it would make a great crossbow scope. The general consensus was that scopes would increase range, with the drawback of limiting the player's view.

However I think they should only be able to be put on certain weapons, and maybe add a longbow thats lke a normal bow, but fires at half speed, has twice the power and range, and is made like a normal bow but the sticks are replaced with tree trunks and spare spaces are filled with uncooked pork to 'preserve' it

There has been ideas for leather bows and composite bows, and just like your longbow they are powerful versions of the normal bow.

I just thought of another use for the "magma ax":
Any overworld logs you cut automatically become charcoal.

    Bow Drill:

While Flint & Steel is easy to make, having to burn through a piece of iron in order to make one can be a pretty steep price if it's early in the game. As an alternative, the Bow Drill allows you to use sticks, wood, string, and paper to start fires. It takes 4-5 seconds to start a fire, and also requires 1 sheet of paper be used as a type of ammunition for starting each fire, but it's durability is the same as the Bow (which currently is infinite)

How do you mean Paper? There is no paper in the recepie and non of the things in the recepie requests paper!

Just like a bow uses arrows, a bowdrill uses paper.

    Golden Chickens
It would be like from Jack and the Beanstalk. They would lay golden eggs! Maybe you could get golden feathers too.
    Angels
If you fall a large height and an angel is near, it might catch you and lift you back up. They cannot be attacked.
    Cloud Blocks
Like square clouds. Would drift if wind blows it, but other than that they float there. Often just floating in a random place, but sometimes in clumps or even a cloud landmass. Once attacked they immediately puff away.
    Lifestone
An idea I had. I thought it would fit perfectly here! Practically it is an ore with little pink gem hearts on it. When mined you get Lifestone. You can use that to create life to mobs (Read on my thread) or make life blocks that refill life when stood on. This ore could be sometimes in the Aether, and even the Life Blocks could be in some areas.
Also, if Notch ever adds horses, you could add Unicorns and Pegasuses for the Aether.

*Angels and Unicorns are not what we are looking for in the Aether. We are looking for indirect damage and/or uniqueness.
*Cold Cloud already deals with a cloud block, and moving blocks are in Floatsand.
*Lifestone has already been discussed in a way by having a "healing spring" liquid in the Aether, but it was decided that it would not be added.
*I did like the Golden Chickens! I would love to have those flying around!

These ideas are wonderful. I would love for Notch to flesh out the Nether a bit more. The shrooms = brilliant. The metals are great. I especially love the fire tools. Don't know what fire hoes could do... maybe grow some firey pepper plant?

The sanctuary would be great too. And the freezer is great. I actually had a similar idea to it! Mine you could make ice tools, obsidian, ice, snow, and ice cream :iapprove:

Overall this is great. I love the images.

Now that you got me thinking, grimwood (and the freezer) would add a ton of new items and capabilities even if it is the only item to make it to the Nether!

can you get back on topic?
Bluestone wires already have their own thread. Post there.
A special dispenser to shoot ghast fireballs would be cool, but it should use materials suggested here if you intend for it to be a Nether update. As for being on top of a sanctuary block, that makes no sense. (unless you can explain to me why)

I have an idea for rivers if they get placed in- Gold panning! Just like in california, panning for gold would be an awesome addition to minecraft. Gold nuggets could appear as you start panning, 9 nuggets could create 1 gold ore block. Other minerals such as iron could also be panned for as well.

I don't think nuggets should be equivalent to ingots (as they both require 9 to make a block), but here is another idea:
4 nuggets create an ore block, that then can be smelted into ingots. I really think nuggets should be lower-powered like this because "panning" would effectively be an infinite metal source.

It sounds like modern oil drills. A bit high-tech for the general view Minecraft has so far.

But what I'm trying to say is that it is like a simple, pushed wooden contraption similar to a Hand-pushed mill. It would be easy to move, as it drops all components when destroyed, and the rails can simply be picked up. You would stand on a wooden platform above the drill which would move with it. You would be able to operate all the drills systems and collect the resources. I'm not talking about a huge large, coal powered automatic drill that will automatically become the best mining machine in the game. It would be slow to move but would break blocks fast.
Still sounding a bit too modern? I still think it's more Minecrafty than a redstone mining laser.

    Sounds better now? Feedback please?

    Anyone?

Still a bit too modern, but that is better than a futuristic mining laser. But it's all up to Notch anyways.
