I think I'm missing the point of the scaffolding block.
Not letting me climb it?
although the xray bug is pretty cool
It's not supposed to be climbable. I just textured it to look like ladders because I thought it had the right "stick" feel. I'll probably retexture it eventually.
It's point that if you build a gigantic dirt tower, and you somehow fall off, then you clean it up easily by just destroying the bottom block.
Or, if you have a chasm, you can build a bridge and destroy it from the other side easily, by just clicking the one end piece. (You'll lose most piece this way tho.)
AutoCanopy currently grows in any loaded chunks. I recommend watching it VERY carefully if you're gonna try it. Or just try a new world.
mmk, so I misjudged the point. still better then using dirt and stone for scaffolding xD
As for the canopy, I think I'm just going to sum it up to an "I'm screwed", leave the game running for a while, and hope either the fire goes away or it finished burning the canopy..game has become a slideshow xD stupid fire
Okay I'm concerned.
I want to give auto canopy a try, but I don't want it taking over my whole world.
How large does it grow? Can you limit it?
By the looks of the last 10 minutes on my world, the only way you can limit it is if you seal it off w/ walls and cieling, otherwise it will keep growing in any direction possible.
Just now..finished fencing in all the above ground area of my railroad; to keep stupid ass farm animals off my tracks, and bam. Took 7 stacks of fencing >.<
I decided today that I was going to pick up, travel by boat for ~20 minutes, and build a new base somewhere.
I found a great little island I figured would be great to start on, but then the great Notch and His world generator machine of epic proportions gave me a sign.
I call it Mt Finger, and I shall follow it's advice, and find another island.
Although a simple bomb has the disadvantage of being in a singe place, where as a siege cannon (4 in a row), or a multi-shot cannon, have the ability of firing multiple TNT to possibly multiple targets.
64x64 TNT are really only used for either A) the novelty of watching an unsuspecting mob get demolished, or :cool.gif: Clearing a gigantic cavern for w/e purpose.
Either way, a single shot musket would be fine, so long as the ammo were more difficult to come by then arrows, and it stopped there.
I think many players prefer to rely on ingenuity to survive rather than straight-up firepower. It would take away from the thinking and planning aspect of the game, in my opinion. Having real vulnerability and danger makes you need to come up with ideas on the fly, which is great fun.
TNT is the lovely straight up firepower for people who prefer to plan out said firepower.
Or, you know, to spontaneously fill a cave with and make a gigantic cavern.
But no guns. Guns are for sissies who can't deal with spider-riding-skellies. ((Pigmen should totally get in on the spider riding business though))
And of course, TNT = Cannon. Cannon > Gun to the power of 10
Apparently two-thirds of this community have no clue about what you are capable of building, despite all the vids, tutorials, and threads about MOB KILLING/FARMING machines/towers.
Awesome job though =o I haven't been able to stick with a single map long enough to set anything more serious then 5-8 floor fortress and a few of the smaller machines and cannons.
Especially hilarious seen half the people crying hacks have 100+ posts...Bots maybe?
So far been focusing on getting the trees up as high as possible. For some reason, many saplings are not growing quickly at all; while others sprout within 3 game days, others have taken 4+ hours. Have also started on the third tier above, ensuring that nothing blocks it up to 5 blocks above, and that there's enough light for each one I plant.
With the small amount of mining that I've one, I managed to come across a few pieces of diamonds, a ton of iron, and a load of obsidian. Thanks to that, I've gone to hell, gotten the bloody cobblestone, and no longer have to rely on torchlight for mining purposes.
I just have to remember to not go ANYWHERE NEAR my trees with it. Can do without that kind of fire.
Anyone else seem to have a lack of hostile mobs spawning? I know not many will show on my surface due to torches/cacti, but not getting many at all in caves or on treetops.
I put a few torches around outside and nah, no spawns which is really handy. I can work through the night :biggrin.gif:
Apparently that was just early on :tongue.gif:
Now that I'm on the first "basement" level of tree building, I've been running into them regularly..just got hit by a creeper I thought had fallen down a hole a few minutes ago.

lol, nothing for you to be sorry for
My own fault xP
Just hoping it burns out eventually..the canopy is actually bigger now then when I set it on fire

Edit: and to anyone thinking of growing the canopy and then burning it, my only advice is don't!!
It grows 4 times as quickly as it burns

Yes. The island told me to F off.
I should encase it in glass...would make it easy to spot in Cartograph
