Molten/Deadland/Badlands biome...no not the nether, but a biome in the overworld. Maybe a blackened sand, volcano with some lava, bone blocks, dead bushes.
Fruit trees!. A way of farming trees for apples, oranges etc. Add a apple tree (maybe bone meal will create apples from it). Also, Orange, lemon, lime, mandarin, grapefruit trees, you plant a citrus tree and it will randomly be one of those tree types (you can only move and replant with silk touch shovel if you want to make a orange tree grove). Also, rare randomly spawning fruit tree groves on the edge of some forests.
Nether brick - Ability to furnace it with coal and black dye to get Black Netherbrick!
Flags (Banners are good, but flags of varying sizes would be a great addition.
Why does the desert not have..... CAMELS, The llama concept with carpets and caravans can be reused here.
Sunken temple in swamps, with an ooze toxic boss
Ships...3 times the size of boats. A redstone trade box, that you can place on one coast line (name it) then across the lake/sea you can place another, if you name it the same, it will transport items from one to the other.....like a trade route and add the visual element of a moving ship to the game. (loaded chunks might make it tricky though)
