Strange, I have 2GB, and none of my mac friends are having the issue. The only thing I could think it could be was a mod. I installed Necrocraft, it worked perfectly, but then I tried to modify my texture pack to have one of the blocks. Then Minecraft stopped working.
Could be your .jar go to the minecraft folder and delete the bin folder
When ever I try to play Minecraft, I enter my password and my click login, but it automatically goes to black screen. I have deleted the file and re downloaded several times, but nothing changes. I have downloaded all of the updates available, and apparently Apple suplies their own version of java.

Browser: Some browsers handle Java differently, they can cause the game to act 'funny' and not how it should do. It can also be helpful if you try the site in another browser, does the same issue occur?
Type of internet connection: If you find yourself constantly suffering from lag or being kicked it could be down to the speed of your connection, your results from http://speedtest.net would be helpful!
How did it happen: It's a broad question, but this can often help you and me to solve your problem. If you performed an action before the problem occurred or something changed with your setup, this will help work towards diagnosing the exact cause.
Is java up to date? Simple question, are you running the latest version of java? If not, update! This won't necessarily solve the problem but it could, worth a try!
With all this information your problem should be resolved in much less time, it saves everyone asking for further information on your setup and saves you posting lots of times.

Well, I tried it. I didn't have to send him my entire MC folder, but I did try remote desktop. I admit it was nerve-wracking to watch somebody remote desktop in, mere clicks away from discovering folders and past URLs of whose content you try so desperately to hide from the world, but despite all that, he really did help. A few changes of settings, some utilities downloaded and ran, and things were quite snappy. He really exhausted every option he could, without so much as a demand for much more then a "Thank you!" While the underlying problem was not totally eliminated, I believe anything that could be done on my end was attempted, and my computer is far happier overall as a result. And rest assured, there were no trojans involved!
Hmm Replacing the items gui interface in minecraft.jar might fix it. Finding the default items gui png file may be hard to find.
I think its a .class file, I just looked into every folder I had (including mods). Just not sure which .class file it is, since there is A LOT of them.
C:\Users\z_neumann\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft\bin\minecraft.jar\gui\items.png

Yes it says HD DO NOT change the pixel sizes.
