    Hey CosmicDan, question: Have you found anyone to do textures for you yet?

    Question Two: If not, perhaps I can help. I stink at modding (I've tried, just not cut out for looking at long lines of code for any amount of time), but I do like texturing. I have been working on a large map for single player, called The Dungeon of Blades. So far, it's about half way done (been working on it for over a year, keep having to re-do things when updates come out). I have made countless custom textures, including reworking every pick, shovel, and axe to look like a sword/blade of some kind. After figuring out a cool way to do "favor" with the divines using command blocks, I also retextured some odd items to use as "trinkets" and such for altars. After that, I started retextering/animating anything that added to the immersion.

    I usually try to stay close enough to the normal Minecraft texture, as I slowly change it bit by bit. This way, even when new content is added (as it surely will be), it still looks fine to slap this mod over top of it. i realize not everyone likes the normal texture, which is why I have been working on an alternate, hi-res pack as well, and so getting experience with that.

    I have attatched pictures (two are animated in-game, and you can slap them in a resource folder to easily view them) so you can have a small idea of what I do. I have done armor/mob textures as well, and your mod sounds exactly like what I have been searching for in a mod, so I would love to help out. Let me know if my talents (or lack thereof) can be of any official use!

    Instead of "Stone" why not change it to "Embershard ore". Since you mentioned it was crystal, I feel "shard" works better than "stone", and I feel "Embershard" works well with: Embershard Block (how it's found in nature), Embershard Ore (how it drops when mined), and Embershard Crystal (how it is when smelted).

    And to answer the questions in a backwards order, no, I don't think they're too similar. Like CosmicDan said, all ores look the same. No one will blame you if you ore looks like anyone else's (after all, they're both based off of Minecraft's ore, so who's copying who? ;) ).

    Right on. From that picture you look like you're doing really good already. I enjoy the style of building. Are you looking for someone who can recreate the architecture of the walls/towers, help fill it with buildings similar to the style, or are you just looking for someone to add their own flavor, or even a second "kingdom"?

    Tips for a mapmaker:

    1) No pictures = no downloads. Put it in a spoiler box if you think it may ruin something, but at least give ONE picture.

    2) There's nothing wrong with releasing a 'demo' version to get feedback, but try finding friends/family that play Minecraft who would be willing to test it for you before you even post that, as it can tremendously help the map.

    3) Have fun doing it. If you only want to finish it if people demand you do, maybe you should try your hand at something else?

    These are only tips, but if you put in at least one picture and a better description I bet 200x more people would try your map and comment on it.

    Or, better yet, instead of only giving a vision filter to the Dragon Eye potion, eating a raw or fermented Dragon Eye will give you a red filter and have a low chance of causing nausia, but any "Dragon" potion will cause you to see very dim red/white halos around living creatures' bodies.

    I like the idea of a potion that gives and takes at the same time, so perhaps the potions could be made more powerful, like climb lasting a longer time but giving you weird, "trippy" vision effects while using it, or you could see invisible at the cost of having the natural "fog" reduced to be very close, or even have dragon skin be better at defending you like reducing 50% level one and 80% level two, but at level one you can't jump and at level two you are much slower at climbing stairs or ladders. Just an idea!

    POTION IDEAS:

    Dragon Eye: Can be used in a legit "See Invis" potion? Or perhaps Dragon Scale can be used in a "Dragon Skin" potion.

    The see invisible is pretty obvious, allows you to see invisible characters and mobs, or perhaps just makes them transparent (like having a teammate be invisible in other games). The Dragon Skin will be a potion, not an armor, with a sort of Protection feature (like reduce 10% of all incoming damage that armor would reduce).

    Dragon Eye: Potion of See Invisible: Put a mundane potion in like normal, and a fermented Dragon Eye (fermented the same way you ferment a spider eye), and out pops this bad boy: When an invisible mob/player comes within 50 blocks of you, they become transparent. When they get within 10 blocks, they are fully visible and their name even appears like normal (maybe doesn't last quite as long as a potion of invisibility?).

    [Edit] This could be a very cool effect to add a red/purple film to the players vision, or perhaps even give living creatures "Halos" of red or white to allow you to see creatures better in the dark without night vision.

    Dragon Scale: Potion of Stone Skin: Put a mundane potion in like normal, and add a Dragon Scale (or perhaps a Gilded Dragon Scale, made like a Glistering Melon), and then viola! A Potion of Stone Skin! When you apply this, it could have a damage reduction effect similar to the Protection effect from a Beacon, but now in a portable potion! For those who don't know, Protection reduces 20% of all incoming damage per level.

    Dragon Claw: Potion of Climbing: Again, mundane, dragon claw, you get: Climbing! This makes it so that certain surfaces, like dirt or rock, but not sand or gravel, are climbable like they are covered in vines! Lasts a very short time, but useful for scaling a mountain or fighting the Enderdragon, or even invading a fortress. Perhaps to keep from being OP, do not allow redstone or glowstone to improve effects, and only lasts 30 seconds.

    I know that you can get Protection from Enchanted Golden Apples, but we already have plenty of armor and weapons, and ways to upgrade them, so "Dragon Scale Maille" is cool, but essentially useless IMHO, and by making it as a potion, it will be splash-able! Also, if you splash a hostile mob with See Invis, it will increase the radius at which the mob detects an invis player.

    Just some ideas! I would love to have a dragon! Especially one you can /summon in as a boss in custom maps without destroying the world... :(

    What have you done? (Proof if possible):



    The Sidebar you are seeing says "The Inkeeper's Problem", which is my active quest on the server. I do the quest systems and test them so my friends can play.



    I prefer building in the medievil style but I can build in others as well.

    Why do you want this position: I love building in MC where a community can see my work, so building for servers is perfect for me.

    Anything Else: I am very good with redstone so if you need mechanical/commandblock work done I can do that, too. I have done everything from easy-quest systems to secret doors, and even a talking sword.

    I use the killEntity score to check for boss deaths, and then open a door at the end so you can get the loot and leave only when the boss is dead. I just make sure the boss is the only entity of his type, and before the fight set the score back to 0 just in case you killed some of his 'kin' earlier and it somehow tracked it.

    However, if you don't like this, another option is to "/clear" the item(s) from the players inventory shortly after the boss' death, like upon leaving the room. The output of that command will only read 'true' (aka power a redstone comparator) if it successfully clears the item(s) from the players inventory. If it does, you can then have it re-give the items to the player, names and lore and all, but at full health.

    Another great thing about this is that you can have it, when it checks to see if it successfully cleared the item, also use that to see if you've killed the boss, which would allow you to have minions or custom minions of the same type as the boss.

    That would be my solution, hope it helps! (:

    [Edit] If you need help learning how to do this exactly, I would be glad to give you more detailed instructions. On an unrelated but slightly related note, I need to go learn why my custom sounds are suddenly all breaking even though I redid my resource pack to the new formats/names... >.>

    Personally, I like huge oceans, but I don't like them now. They need more sea-life for them to be interesting. Otherwise, it's just a lot of nothing in a boat, and god forbid should you try swimming one.

    On the other hand, perhaps some of the new fish they've mentioned can only be found if fishing in an ocean? That might be cool.

    You should probably give screenshots of what has already been made, to set the par. Also it would be nice to see who else is working on this, what the server is going to be (it could be an adventurous role playing server or a server based on minigames, or even just a creative build server). These are just a few things that could get you more (and more serious) replies. :)

    This map is very good. The size and shape are great overall but some parts seem to be "broken", such as ladders and tracks being out of place. Doors look like they were all placed with an editor, as most of the double-doors are both placed to one side, making it hard to get through (you'll see what I mean if you play it). The locations, in relation to the game, are highly accurate. The tram is very nice, even the tunnels. The underbelly of the ship is unpolished, but not many people are going to see it. The top, however, looks amazing. I wish you'd have started us out inside the shuttle, that would've saved me some temporary confusing upon first loading of the map (this lasted only seconds). Some signs could be better placed, and some doors could be better labeled. All in all, this is a good map.

    I had an idea for a puzzle/action map, and wanted to make it Deadspace themed. I would like to ask your permission to use this map (at least pieces of it) for the one I'm making. Mind you I may not finish it, depending on how I feel about it while making it. I don't know how the whole thing will play out and don't want to release a half-done version. I do have a very nice idea for upgrading weapons. It involves not only enchanting, but also using the items monsters drop as "money" for a machine I've built. All credit will be given, of course.

    This looks absolutely wonderful. I was about to do this myself, but decided to check to see if someone else did first. Boy am I glad I did! It looks like you did a great job, and I'll be sure to leave a longer post about what I think after I've played around in it!

    If you want, when you finish (or a bit before you finish) you can release a small part, or all of the city to me. I can create a texture pack that will better capture the 'feel' of the place, like in the game how it's more gritty and beat down. Lemme know. (:
