posted a message on 1.9 - The update that never saw the light of day.
    Look at this:

    http://notch.tumblr.com/post/11309884313/pre-releases-and-adventure-updates

He basically announced today that he's not going to do another full version update of the game until Minecon, and continue to pump out pre-releases of Minecraft until the unveiling of the full game at Minecon.

He said that "What we’ve got on our hands now is somewhere in between a finished Adventure Mode update and a version of the game we’d be proud to call just “Minecraft”." That means that now he's officially gone PAST the point of finishing the 1.9 version update, and is now polishing and pushing the game for a full release. :Skeleton:

The pre-releases ARE NOT enough in my opinion. Pumping them out pleases the Single Player crowd, and maybe a sackful of private servers, but what about people that only play on the BIG Multiplayer servers? Many big server owners refuse to use the pre-release updates because they are too buggy and unstable to update the server, plus the fact that they have to wait until server mods and plug-ins are updated! Smaller private servers are ok with pre-releases, but the bigger servers that need a stable update CAN'T USE or WON'T use the pre-releases.

Also, don't mention using Single Player as a substitute :dry.gif: It's very clear that I'm standing up for the Multiplayer crowd. Some of us (like me)can't stand Single Player because of it's loneliness and lack of things to do that SMP makes up for, and only use Multiplayer. For instance, all my current Minecraft progress is on ONE server that I visit weekly, and I do not have the time or the patience to mess with a Single Player world by myself. However, I understand going into this that a majority of people use Single Player for their Minecraft experience. I recognized that going into this, and I respect that. I also know a lot of people don't like to use pre-releases because of reasons listed in the poll above.

I welcome anyone else's opinion about this topic, whether positive or negative. But I personally don't think that this method is being fair to everyone. A stable update would please everyone, including SMP players and mod makers, but a pre-release doesn't do that.

Always used "I", always will. No need for me to change.

Especially since if I do change, I'll always try to hit "I" anyway, so why attempt to change the habit?

posted a message on When you first got griefed
Had a few thieves here and there, but they got banned. One time, someone went into the jail cell block in the courthouse of my town, and pickaxed his way out instead of taking the stairs. :Skeleton: He got banned for griefing. Then I had a brand new town resident who decided it was funny to tunnel into my home, go on the roof, and start tearing it down. He got banned too. I had a few people who thought it was funny to knock down paintings, and trample my crops (minor grief, can't ban them for it). :Skeleton: Then there's the people who took sand from my beaches without asking, which I overlooked (wish I had done more). Other then that, not much else.

Usually, I just defeat them using my bow and arrow, from a safe distance. Two charged shots, and it's dead.

sorry my friend, but im pretty sure that it wont. the world was generated pre 1.8, which means it doesn't have the 1.8 generation. no matter how many chunks you generate, you wont find a stronghold. also, what do you mean by "expanded"?

Well basically, the server border is set to a certain limit to keep people from wandering out too far and generating new chunks. If you get to the border, it stops you from walking any farther. So it stops chunks from a new update from being generated past a certain limit.

Oh God no. I sincerely hope he doesn't plan on keeping the oversized head on those baby pigs as they appear in that picture. As others have stated, it makes them look rediculous. The cow looks fine though.

Hopefully, if Notch is shortsighted enough to release something that rediculous (as he has proved with his current track record), the fans will prevail long enough to make him want to change it. :dry.gif: Maybe a slightly smaller head with cute eyes, as others have said? Features that make it look more baby-ish and adorable.

posted a message on Strongholds in an older SMP server
I have questions regarding the placement of strongholds in Minecraft 1.8. On the server I regularly go to, our map was recently extended for the 1.8 update, to take advantage of the new map generation features and new items. Since the update has been out, nobody has found any of the three strongholds that are supposed to generate in new chunks. The Minecraft Wiki said something about them only spawning in a 640 to 1152 block radius around spawn. But the problem is that the server I'm a member of is never going to regenerate the map we are running unless it is completely used up, or corrupted, which is completely unfair, as I was looking forward to seeing the new strongholds, and getting resources from them. =(

The map we are currently running (up to +/- 2500 X/Z) has been up since the Halloween update in Alpha, and it was expanded to take advantage of new features in Beta 1.3 (expanded to +/- 5000 X/Z). This update, we stretched the map 1000 more chunks past +/-5000 X/Z, to take advantage of the new map generation changes, with another 1000 being extended in Beta 1.9. My question to this forum is, does the stronghold spawn radius (640 to 1152 blocks) from the Strongholds section of MinecraftWiki hold any validity? Could it still be possible for us to still find strongholds, or will we have to wait for updates to change the spawnrate of them?

A bug on my server caused all entities (minecarts, paintings, wolves) to be wiped out recently, after an update. I lost four wolves, but I know other people on the server that lost huge numbers, like 32, 48, 56, 68 wolves. That was a very sad day for some people.

There's a mod that allows you to become a creeper. There's another one that makes it so they don't explode. I haven't heard of any that allows you to tame them though. :/

If you're sick and disgusted by what people you don't know are going to do to programmed creations of programmed AI, then the real problem here is you, not the decisions of other players.

I guess. Still, I'd like to have at least one or two of the villages intact, so I could locate and look around them without them getting hacked to bits.

TL;DR. JK. Uhhh. Well, we could talk ethics all day long, but for now. Let me just say, ITS A GAME. Simply ask the admins to protect one or two villages.

I guess that's a fair approach. I'll discuss it on the server forums, and see what they think about it.

posted a message on Raiding NPC villages and killing NPC's. Bad or good?
I know there are like three other topics about the inclusion of NPC villages, but I wanted to create a topic that was more specific. Several nights ago, Notch revealed several spoilers about the much-anticipated 1.8 update, and one of the spoilers was the inclusion of NPC villages.

We brought this topic up on the multiplayer server I go to (a Vanilla Survival Server), and the head admin there said that he planned to expand the map specifically for 1.8, so that people can go beyond the map boundaries, and find new resources, dungeons, and NPC villages. Immediately, one of the first topics that are brought up by the server members is "Is raiding NPC villages okay?", and "Are we allowed to loot them?".

For me, that seems kind of harsh. I was hoping that we could have at least had some decent looking, natural towns that aren't abandoned/griefed, and that they are always expanding and well-kept, by the NPC's of course. Instead, everyone is going to run out into the newly expanded map areas and start slaughtering NPC's by the dozens, maybe even hundreds, and looting their resources and buildings to help build their shitty ass towns that will be abandoned and griefed in five months. That makes me sick inside. Truly disgusted. But other than trying to get to those towns first to put a claim on them, what else is there to do?

Mind you, this is on a limited Vanilla Survival map, with a border protection plugin. You can't travel any further than the limit they set (currently at +/=5,000, 6,000 come 1.8). Which means that when all those players burn, rob, and loot every NPC village on the map, they're gone forever. No more "travel to new chunks and find moar". When they're gone, they're gone. That makes me sad. I guess I could always play with them on singleplayer, but singleplayer is boring. There's nobody to show off to, or talk with. Nobody to help you, collaborate with you, trade with you. It sucks.

That's my stance on it. I wanted to discuss this in a public, populated place where I could hear other people's opinions about this. Do you think it's fair to kill NPC's, and loot their towns, after reading my story? I'd really like to know.

posted a message on The most funny way you ever died
I was filling a lava lamp at the top of my lighthouse, on a Vanilla Survival server. I didn't have enough glass to finish the sides of the lamp, so i decided to put some lava in, then come back and put the sides on. Big mistake. The lava was able to reach a gap, and it flooded out, and poured DIRECTLY down on me, causing me to die on it. It also went off the side of the lighthouse into the bay, and all the way down the spiral staircase. I had to go back and mop all the lava up with dirt, AND put a temporary seal on the lamp. During this, I caught fire twice, because 1 bloody pixel of my character snagged on the lava. Knowing that I was going to die of fire, and not wanting my stuff to end up in the lava again, I flung myself off the lighthouse with three hearts left, letting the fall kill me instead. I died a total of four times during this disaster, once by lava to the face, twice by fall, and once by fire. It took me about 2 IRL hours to clean it all up, and repair the lamp.

posted a message on Do YOU dare to play minecraft right after the adventure update?
I will be using the same protocal I use with every update.

    1. Wait for release.
    2. When it comes out, do NOT update. If it's a game breaking update, then the people who waited will hear about it before it breaks your game. Simple, AND effective!
    3. Watch the bug reports start streaming in.
    4. Watch Mojang's twitter constantly
    5. Wait for patch
    6. Wait until my server is updated
    7. ???
    8. Profit.
