posted a message on attempting to launch Examplemod (Forge 1.8.9) using eclipse => my ubuntu 18.04 freezes / crashes

update: I think it might be a problem with this version of eclipse not playing nicely (at least as I've installed it) with this version of forge.

On another installation, using eclipse 2018 09, all working fine. Hmmm.

posted a message on attempting to launch Examplemod (Forge 1.8.9) using eclipse => my ubuntu 18.04 freezes / crashes

Just trying to set up a new Ubuntu 18.04 Forge Eclipse modding environment, having some problems.

This is a new ubuntu 18.04 installation. No real troubles (have a little password hiccup to fix, but doesn't seem relevant).

    Installed jdk "1.8.0_211", seems fine.

Downloaded Forge (1.8.9 - 11.15.1.1722, mdk). Installation seemed to go fine (gradlew setupDecompWorkspace eclipse).

    Downloaded / installed eclipse (2019 03 / 4.11.0) - seemed to go fine.

When I open the example mod in eclipse and push run (green button), minecraft opens and the forge loading stuff runs for a while then the whole system freezes.

    Any hints?

    Thanks

update: maybe a it's a problem with the graphics driver on the new installation (I'm using an nvidia driver on the other installation).

used eclipse 2018 09 and jvm reported the following when I tried to run examplemod:

    java: ../nouveau/pushbuf.c:723: nouveau_pushbuf_data: Assertion `kref' failed.

update: problem fixed by installing nvdia drivers, it's a problem with the nouvea driver.

posted a message on [Solved] Mouse 'stuck pointing down' - vanilla Minecraft 1.13.2 on Ubuntu 18.04.2 on Oracle vm virtual box

Hi, my mouse appears to be 'stuck' pointing at (Steve's)/player's feet - vanilla Minecraft 1.13.2 on Ubuntu 18.04.2 on Oracle vm virtual box (VirtualBox Graphical User Interface Version 5.2.18_Ubuntu r123745).

When I move the mouse around the screen the player rotates but the arm stays pointing to the ground; I can't change the direction the player looks.

The Minecraft installation otherwise looks ok - running about 10 fps.

Virtual machine otherwise seems to running ok, so I suspect it has something to do with how minecraft runs in this environment.

(On starting the vm I get a note from Virtual Box saying that 'the guest os supports mouse pointer integration ...', should it should run fine out of the box).

Any hints? Am I asking in the right place?

    Thanks.

Update: sorry, meant to put this 'minecraft support section' - not really to do with modding. How do I move the thread?

This looks promising for VMplayer, but haven't found similar post for oracle virtual box:

    https://www.toptip.ca/2016/09/how-to-fix-uncontrollable-mouse-when.html

Playing around with some ideas from the following seems to help:

    https://askubuntu.com/questions/952911/how-to-fix-mouse-cursor-out-of-sync-with-virtualbox-ubuntu-server-16-04-3-lts-vm

I think it's more a virtual box / vm problem than a minecraft problem, so I'll try to mark this solved.
