I got this error when I selected a world using 'Other'
    2012-01-18 12:33:41,640 - ERROR | org.lwjgl.LWJGLException: Pixel format not accelerated

Are you running this on the same machine that you use for Minecraft itself? That error basically means that X-Ray (or, really, LWJGL) couldn't detect 3D acceleration as being available on your system. If Minecraft can run on the same system, then X-Ray certainly should, too.

Assuming that it is all running on the same machine, what had you chosen for resolution/bpp/fullscreen, etc? Perhaps some details about the hardware involved would be useful.

it still isnt working i installed modloader 1.1 and deleted the meta-INF and i dragged all of the xray files in and hit ok but when i started my game and went on my singlepayer it didt work i tryed x,v,and c help me

X-Ray is not a mod - it's an external program which is run completely separately from Minecraft. You don't use modloader, you don't modify Minecraft's main JARfile, and you don't use it inside Minecraft itself. http://apocalyptech.com/minecraft/xray/usage.php

Clearly I haven't been terribly active on X-Ray lately, but the recent few posts here have reminded me that I had a couple of bugfixes in git which hadn't gotten released yet, so I've just put together X-Ray 3.5.1 and put it up at the usual place: http://apocalyptech.com/minecraft/xray/

There's just two relatively minor changes in this release:

    • The "Other..." option on the "Open" dialog was previously only working the first time you use it. I fixed the bug that was causing it to only work once, so you should be able to use it more than once in a single X-Ray session.
    • If the camera ever ends up outside of the map boundary, a message will be shown onscreen, and you can use the "-" key (dash, minus, etc) to jump to the nearest actually-valid chunk. This was mostly just something that you'd encounter when hopping back and forth between Nether, but it could also be an issue if your map was corrupted in some way.
    • Lastly, just a packaging change - it seems that at least one Mac user was having trouble with the .tbz2 file, so I've also tweaked the release scripts to generate a .tgz as well.
So yeah, that's it for now!

when can we expect 1.1 xray

This program will, in general, continue to work fine for any future Minecraft releases, provided that Mojang doesn't end up changing the format of the world files again. If any new releases of Minecraft include new block types, they'd just end up showing up as a purple block in X-Ray, until a new version of X-Ray is released with updated block definitions.

In this case, Minecrat 1.1 didn't add any new block types, so X-Ray is already fully-compatible with it. I've updated the topic here to reflect that.

It's generally only mods which need to be updated with each Minecraft release, not external applications like this X-Ray. (There IS a mod which lets you see through to ores inside Minecraft itself, which would certainly have to be updated to work with Minecraft 1.1, but this app isn't it.)

Is it possible to edit toggle to detect chests instead of ores ?
If it is,I wanna know how.

Yeah - the default key to change the highlights is Right Bracket - ]

You can also change the keybindings; the default key for that is Y.

Updated my graphics display driver - was a new release 2 weeks ago.. Fixed!! Looks like it was an OpenGL issue with graphics driver.. \o/

Ah, cool. I'm glad you figured it out, because I'd be quite stumped otherwise. :) Enjoy!

(Oh, and yeah - one of these days I'll take the time to figure out how to do some proper threading-or-whatever to try and eliminate that lag-while-loading-new-chunks thing. Somewhat annoying!)

This thing is really painful to use.. it jerks around and drops to 1 FPS every couple of seconds on my machine - it will often stop completely for a second or two, then suddenly start responding again, even if I'm sitting in one place on the map. I do have poor internet service.. don't know why that would be relevant, but it's about as responsive as my Google Chrome window on laggy Internet service, so it feels like maybe it's trying to communicate to a server in the background or something?

That's quite odd, especially given your computer's specs. X-Ray itself doesn't talk to the internet at all, so slow internet shouldn't be problematic at all.

There's possibly two things to try here - first, maybe try running an earlier version of X-Ray just to see if some of the more recent rendering changes happen to perform badly on your comp. I'd recommend trying v3.3.3, and see how that goes. Secondly (and this might be a little harder to figure out), could you possibly try installing Java 6 temporarily to see if that fixes it? Once we've pinpointed where the problem is, I'd hopefully be able to fix things so that you wouldn't have to worry about it.

    still the same problem :sad.gif:

I assume that Minecraft itself works fine on that machine, right? I can't help but think it's a Java problem still, but I don't really use Windows myself so I'm not sure how to get more info out of it. I don't suppose after clicking the EXE it gets as far as generating a minecraft_xray_output_log.txt file in the main X-Ray directory? (I may not have the filename exactly right.) I'd assume not, if it's not actually launching a JVM.

You could try perhaps uninstalling all Java stuff first and then doing the Java reinstall, I suppose... Perhaps there's remnants of other JVMs lying around which are getting in the way, or something. The version you got was "Version 6 Update 29," right? I've run X-Ray without problems on Java 7 in Linux, but perhaps there's something fishy with Windows and Java 7.

Trying that, but when i double click the file nothing happens

Perhaps just try reinstalling Java from http://java.com/ and see if that clears things up for you.

Might I just say that the CPGZ encoding you use for archiving this is seriously harshing my mellow? This is what my Mac is doing atm (and has been for the past 15 minutes):

That's highly odd... What are you using to extract it? I do have access to a Mac OSX 10.6 machine, and on that one I can just doubleclick on the .tbz2 from Finder and it extracts just fine. ".tbz2" is actually nearly the same thing as a ".tgz" - it's just a tarfile that's been compressed with bzip2 instead of gzip. What version of OSX are you running?

That said, it would certainly be easy enough to tweak the ant file to generate a .tgz as well; it just always seemed silly to generate both. I suppose that since I'm hosting the downloads at sourceforge now, there's little reason not to have both, though. Anyway, let me know some more details, and if it's still not working for you I'll make sure to package up a .tgz for the next release (should hopefully be sometime this week).

Additionally, I'm really confused where that "cpgz" thing is coming from. I've never heard of that, and that's certainly not how X-Ray's distributed...

when i try to run the xray it won't start up but instead it will say like " 'java' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file. "

That can happen sometimes if the Java installation on your machine isn't entirely up to snuff.

I'm pretty sure that's only an issue if you're running the .bat version, though... Could you try running the .EXE version instead? I'm pretty sure that one should launch regardless of how fully Java is installed.

I have a problem with my mincraft x-ray, When I load it everything goes well until the loading screen comes, it says loading moving camera to single player user and it shuts down about halfway threw the loading ... I tried it in administrative user... I tried with other world and fint the level.dat. and nothing works...

Hello - I already mentioned this in the PMs, but for the record here as well:

It definitely shouldn't be doing that. Could you zip up your world and send it to me so that I could take a look? That should help. Also, you might have some debugging info inside minecraft_xray_output.log (or something along those lines) in the X-Ray directory.

Are you running any mods on your world?

How I activate the mod? When i run minecraft its just my normal screen.

As it says on the homepage, up in the subtitle for this forum topic, and a total of five times on this very page of responses, this X-Ray is not a mod; it's a separate program that runs outside of Minecraft itself. To run it you just download, unzip, and double-click on the the appropriate file (minecraft_xray.exe on Windows).

If you're looking for a mod which does similar things in-game, there's a link to one right on the homepage of this project.

I thank you for this worthless little porgram... thanks to you, 2 of my worlds are trashed

I'm curious how you think X-Ray trashed your worlds. X-Ray itself never writes any changes to disk at all; it only reads data. If you're using it on Windows, it's probably not best to run it at the same time as Minecraft because of the way that Windows locks files, so if you were running both at the same time, something might have gotten screwed up there. However, X-Ray does warn you about that, right at startup, if you're on Windows.

So anyway, if there's something else at play here, do let me know and I can take a look at it, though I'll need more details and ideally a way to reproduce your problem. I've been maintaining X-Ray for very nearly a year now (looks like the 1-year anniversary of Maintenance Branch 1 is in two days!) and I have yet to hear of anyone with data corruption problems as the result of X-Ray.
