512x spruce planks. They were made with flooring partially in mind, but they're not too stylized so they don't look out of place when used anywhere else.

    In-game:

PARQUET FLOORING! WOOOH! Maybe it's just the light glaring off of my computer from my bedroom, but the planks to me look a bit dark and hard to see the texture. But I love the parquet. <3

posted a message on Idea: Another Standard
That's an interesting idea/question you bring up that I've thought about before. I'll address the points in order of appearance:

It would be very hard to get a pack that is "the new default" created, simply for the fact that anything created by the community is not default. And the reason that the vanilla textures will always be around is because they're hard-coded into the game (as opposed to texture packs which must be installed), and into players' brains. Most if not all players will use the default textures in their first time opening Minecraft. So they know what it looks like.

A simple comparison can be made such that if you have siblings, and someone tells you to imagine life without them, it's very difficult; on the surface, you'd probably just say "Oh, I'd have more money", or "the house would be quieter", which might be true. But you can't truly imagine life without something that's always been there, because you haven't experienced it not being there for a long enough period of time.

Likewise, it's difficult to create a pack that will instill in all users a sense of replacing default textures; even in my head, they're an integral part of Minecraft. You would have to go and replace every Minecraft website, poster, icon, plushie, and everything else related to the game with your new textures, and then be tough as nails to get it to stick to the community.

Of course there are packs many people use that are very popular, which is a sign that, in the minds of the many people who use the packs, they could replace default textures. The packs that come to mind are:

    Jolicraft (happy, light, fun)
    Dokucraft (Medieval, pixel art, fantasy)
    Isabella (Rugged, default-true)
    Faithful (Upscale default)

There are a few packs out there that, if I were given the choice, could replace default rather successfully: Painterly, Isabella, and a couple others, like Quandary. It's simply because they stick to what Minecraft is. Rather than trying to theme the pack, they instead give it a different feel. Packs like Quandary try to recreate Mona Lisa under a different painter's hand, whereas packs like Dokucraft try to recreate Mona Lisa with a costume.

As for the theme of Minecraft's vanilla textures, I'd pinpoint it as a pixel art stylized. There is no real time period (modern, medieval, etc.), but it fits in with BonreoCat said above, which is that the default textures are done in such a way to please any style (even if they look ugly while doing it). But it's definitely pixel art (even if the color count isn't the greatest).

There's my two cents, I'll step off of my soapbox now.

This is so similar to greatwoods that I kinda feel you're infringing on his style a little... I mean, it's VERY very similar. So similar that if he were still updating his pack, if I didn't know which was selected in minecraft, I couldn't honestly tell the difference between them.

IMO I think you should branch out the style a bit more, and aim to make it a bit more unique. You've used his style well but I just think getting a little more creative with it wouldn't hurt.

EDIT: Just noticed you're using ad based links as well.. Makes me think again if that's really appropriate for just how similar it is...

This was already addressed by Lithium a page or two back. But I do agree that the style is totally copied from Lithium's packs (even if the blocks are not entirely copied).

How is this not getting more attention? This is really awesome. I like the skins a lot. My only bout of critique is that you make different textures/skins for each type, rather than just recolors (e.g. the aged ones could be more clockwork, or the elemental ones could further represent their elements; etc.). But other than that, it's clean and I like it.

The thing is that making a texture pack takes a LOT of time. Months up to years long. It's not like you're going to have people tripping over each other to make something for you. Insinuating that, not only that there will be more than one, but that you'll consider throwing the 'winner' a meager reward is just... no offense... kinda arrogant. :(

Besides that... why would I want a skin pack anyway? I can make my own skins as I see fit, thanks. Even if they're really good skins, we'll never know since you didn't post any pics. I can offer you a car to do something for me, but everyone's going to wonder what rusted out junker I'm unloading on them if I don't give specifics. May be I'm offering a top of the line model right off the showroom floor... but who would know?

Look, if you find a LoL pack, and the author is cool with you using if for... whatever it is you're going to be using it for, that's one thing. But coming here and asking for us to just hand you one is not cool, and is not encouraging anyone to help you. Especially when you put it like that. :(

I hate it when people say something that I want to say better than a way I would have said it. :P

Huh, this is strange. I'm running Minecraft version 1.5.2 with a fresh jar; I only have Forge installed and Mine Painter. Whenever I use the chisel on a block (via right-clicking, of course), it immediately shuts down my game. Here's the hs_err_pid .txt that it prints out:

posted a message on My theory about creative mode
Just saying, if any of y'all remember, Minecraft started as a purely creative sandbox game. No zombies. No mining. No hunger. None of that. Then survival came out, and peaceful was introduced for those who wanted a more creative experience. Finally, creative mode was re-introduced in Beta 1.8 which was really great because we could finally do what we'd always loved about Minecraft: being able to build awesome things with virtual blocks.

Saying that Creative Mode ruins Minecraft is like saying chocolate flavor ruins ice cream. Even if you like vanilla better, it doesn't make chocolate any less valid as a flavor of ice cream, and it's simply belligerent to assume that your way of playing is the "right" way to play.
